When a series has been on the air for over a decade, the show’s finales take up a life of their own. After all, they are the last thing fans remember until the next season.
In the case of Frasier, a majority of the season finales happened to be well received by viewers, although a few didn’t reach the same level of quality the sitcom is known for. 11 Season 10: "A New Position For Roz" - 7.5
Roz gets a new job away from KACL but can’t make up her mind whether to leave or not. However, her frequent arguments with Frasier’s mean-spirited girlfriend Julia prompt her to quit out of spite as her relationship with Frasier deteriorates.
After a decade since the show's debut, this kind of angle involving petty squabbles really wasn’t well received by fans, especially considering Frasier chose a horrible woman over his long-standing friendship. With the lack of payoff here, it remains a so-so episode at best.
10 Season 9: "Moons Over Seattle" - 7.6
Niles attempts to reconcile Daphne’s parents in order to renew her faith in love. Unfortunately, both Moon parents turn out to be nasty pieces of work, making Niles’ task more than a little difficult as things spiral out of control.
Due to the lack of focus on the titular character, this finale falls short of being one of the classics. While Niles’ gesture at making Daphne happy was a sweet one, her parents’ inherently unlikable personalities are hard to stomach.
9 Season 8: "The Cranes Go Caribbean" - 7.7
Frasier tries to book a trip to the Caribbean with his new girlfriend but is interrupted by his family, who decide to tag along. Once they arrive, the seemingly perfect trip is marred by numerous mishaps and arguments.
Episodes that focus on vacations are always fun to watch as these offer a more breezy experience with the change of scenery. This one delights as well, although there’s a feeling it could have been a lot funnier than it turned out.
8 Season 5: "Sweet Dreams" - 7.8
Frasier puts on a rebellious attitude when he is told to endorse a product he doesn’t believe in. After bringing this matter up to the station owner, Frasier is horrified to learn that not only has he been given the boot, but the entire KACL staff has as well.
Frasier’s snooty attitude made for much of the basis of the jokes on the show, and while it was pretty funny in this episode too, the fact that he went overboard does make him out to be more annoying than he needed to be.
7 Season 4: "Odd Man Out" - 7.9
Feeling down and out for being the only one in his social group who doesn’t have a romantic interest, Frasier goes to great lengths in finding someone for himself. This leads him all the way to the airport, where he ends up boarding an airline after the woman he originally pursued turns out to be married.
Since he spent the majority of the show on his own, it was funny to see an episode entirely dedicated to Frasier’s exploits as a single man. Sure, his desperation was pretty high, but it was segued into comedic situations.
6 Season 2: "Dark Victory" - 8.2
In a bid to cheer Roz up after she’s forced to miss a family reunion, Frasier invites her to spend time with his own family. However, this turns out to be far from a fun arrangement as the Crane household spirals into a series of arguments.
If you’re aware of this show then you’re very familiar with the constant bickering that comes along with it, so an episode featuring these squabbles as the main theme certainly has potential to be wacky fun, which is exactly what it turned out to be.
5 Season 3: "You Can Go Home Again" - 8.3
With the third year of his move to Seattle completed, Frasier begins to take an introspective look at the many changes his life has gone through in the past few years. With this trip down memory lane, he learns more about his development into a changed man.
The finale didn’t have much going for it as far as being memorable is concerned, but the parallels between the old and new Frasier made for funny television. It also makes one appreciate the show’s talent of subtly presenting changes for the better.
4 Season 6: "Shutout In Seattle" - 8.5
After their loneliness reaches its peak, Roz and Niles take drastic approaches to find love interests. Unfortunately, this entangles Roz in an affair with Bulldog of all people, while Niles has a fling with a girl completely unlike himself. Meanwhile the other characters also start feeling less-than-enthused in their couplings.
It was a bit all over the place with this episode’s theme, but the performances of the cast enabled it to become an engaging finale as everyone’s plight to be stuck in relationships that aren’t enjoyable is both wacky and relatable.
3 Season 1: "My Coffee With Niles" - 8.8
With the first anniversary of his move to Seattle coming up, Frasier dares to ask himself if he is truly happy to be there at all. Meanwhile, Niles has no choice but to accept that he is in love with Daphne despite being married to Maris.
As the show was still in its first season, this episode wasn’t high on the stakes. However, the low-scale plot did make for a good analysis of where the Crane men stood, eventually reaching a heartwarming conclusion.
2 Season 7: "Something Borrowed, Someone Blue" - 9.1
After finding out about Niles’ feelings for him, and with her own wedding to Donny having arrived, Daphne confesses that she has fallen in love with Niles as well. Despite being married to someone else, he decides to seize the moment and run away with her.
Although the circumstances behind their union was nothing like fans would have imagined, the episode gave viewers the couple they had wanted for so long. This has allowed it to be remembered fondly, with the moment where the two reveal their feelings being particularly memorable.
1 Season 11: "Goodnight, Seattle" - 9.3
With the woman he has fallen in love with moving to Chicago and each one of his family members and friends moving on in their lives, Frasier decides to take a new job to a different city. As the time to leave arrives, he decides to follow his heart rather than his mind for once.
Known for being among the best series finales ever made, Frasier bowed out the right way by handing out closures for every character but leaving things open-ended for the protagonist. To this day, the perpetual cliffhanger remains in the minds of fans, but the overall experience is no doubt fulfilling.
