Supernatural: 10 Characters Castiel Should Have Been With (Other Than Meg)

Castiel is everyone's favorite angel on the long-running CW show Supernatural. From losing all his angelic mojo to going rogue with millions of souls inside of him, to briefly becoming Lucifer himself, Castiel has been through many ups and downs ever since he threw in his lot with the Winchesters.

As an angel, Cas has a rather reticent nature, not being able to give in to emotions very easily. His character has therefore not had too many romantic partners, or even potential ones, aside from the demon Meg with whom there was a definite hint of romantic involvement for a short period of time.

Let us see who else might have made suitable partners for Castiel, played by actor Misha Collins.

10 Anna Milton

The fallen angel Anna and Cas served in the same garrison in heaven before Anna fell. Cas also mentions that the two of them had history which leaves the audience assuming that there might have been some romantic entanglement between the two.

However, when Cas and Anna are shown at the present time, Cas is working with the angel Uriel to kill her and their relationship is shown to be sour. Although Anna saves Cas's life by killing Uriel, Castiel betrays her trust by turning her in. The two are not shown in a romantic light as such, in fact, Anna seems to be drawn to Dean. But Cas and Anna could have made potential partners, especially since both were renegades and fell in love with humanity.

9 Daphne Allen

Daphne was the one slightly stable relationship in Cas's life. Castiel was brought back from the dead after being destroyed by the Leviathans and had no memory of who he was. At this time, he came across Daphne Allen who tended to him and the two got married.

Castiel came to be called Emanuel at this time and became a healer, in which Daphne supported him. Daphne is shown to be caring and possibly devout, thus making her a perfect fit for Castiel. However, once Castiel gets his memory back, he no longer goes back to her and their brief relationship.

8 Nora

In season 9, Castiel loses all his powers and is downgraded into a human. He ends up having to work like other humans, which is when his boss makes advances that he doesn't brush off, presumably because he likes her.

Nora is the manager of the Gas-N-Sip where Castiel works and the two to hit it off until poor Cas is left high and dry when it turns out that Nora had been angling for him to act as a babysitter for her daughter all along. Hilarious and a little pathetic as it is, Nora might have made a good partner for Castiel for she was able to see his caring side and acknowledge that he was special.

7 Hannah

Hannah was the angel who allied herself with Castiel in the fight to keep heaven from falling into the hands of Metatron. She accepted Castiel's leadership and would probably have been his second-in-command in heaven had he actually become the leader in heaven.

Hannah developed human feelings during her time on earth and even felt physically attracted to Castiel as she felt the passion and sentiments that her human vessel was used to. She and Cas parted ways on cordial terms as Hannah returned to heaven and left her vessel alone so that the latter could live peacefully with her husband. Hannah and Cas had a definite spark which, in true Supernatural style, proved to be doomed.

6 Amelia Novak

Amelia was the wife of Jimmy Novak, the devout Christian who served as Castiel's vessel, and mother to Jimmy's daughter Claire. When Castiel possessed Jimmy, he deserted Amelia who was left alone with young Claire. Amelia then went off by herself, dropping Claire off at her grandmother's.

Amelia is killed in the end by the Grigori, Tamiel. Her death is unfortunate since she would have been an ideal partner for Castiel, not only because Amelia obviously loved Jimmy and the two had a daughter together, but because Cas's presence would have meant that the family wasn't destroyed.

5 Dumah

Dumah was one of the few angels left in heaven after the Great Fall and intended to trace the Nephilim Jack, the only force powerful enough to create more angels. Although she seemed like an ally at first, it soon became clear that heaven would be enslaving Jack to do its bidding.

Although it took Dumah only a few minutes to turn foe, the way she coaxed Castiel indicated that she might have been open to being more understanding than other angels. Cas and Dumah might not have made a bad couple, fighting together to keep heaven from collapsing.

4 Kelly Kline

Kelly became pregnant with the Nephilim Jack when she was tricked into having sex with Lucifer. She and Cas developed a beautiful bond in the short time they had together. Kelly entrusted Cas with Jack's responsibility, to make sure that no harm came to him, and Cas took care of her to the best of his ability.

Kelly and Cas would have made excellent parents to Jack, with both trying to keep him on the path of righteousness and drawing him away from the darkness that was sure to have pervaded his being as a result of his genes.

3 Balthazar

On Supernatural, angels and demons appear to have gender fluidity. They do not have a fixed human vessel, possessing vessels of any gender. Castiel himself has been shown in a female vessel when he walked the earth at some point in the past. Given that, it might not be wrong to include some male partners he could have teamed up with.

An angel who faked his death and disappeared from heaven with some Biblical items, Balthazar was shown to have been old pals with Castiel at one time. Having escaped on earth, he now lives for hedonistic pleasures, pursuing a life of self-indulgence. Castiel betrays and kills him from behind when he realizes that Balthazar had teamed up against him with the Winchesters. However, the two did share a camaraderie earlier and would have made a perfect team together - one full of life and the other of a more introvert nature.

2 Crowley

The fan-favorite would have made an excellent partner for Castiel. The snarky demon and the taciturn angel didn't always see eye to eye and even tried to kill each other a number of times. In spite of all that, Cas and Crowley teamed up several times, sometimes along with the Winchesters, and sometimes separately. And their duo provided the audience with some of the most humorous moments on the show.

Crowley was the crossroads demon turned king of hell and Castiel was an angel who had rebelled against heaven and was drawn to humanity. Although their natures were poles apart from each other's, the two came off as a fun couple. Not very successful as investigators but definitely entertaining.

1 Dean

The potential romance between Dean and Cas has kept fans drooling for years now. While Cas partnering with Dean may or may not have a sexual aspect to it, they definitely make for a fantastic couple, and the fact that they are both pleasing to the eye only helps matters.

Canon says that Cas walked the earth before but his part in the Winchester brothers' story begins with Dean. It was Cas who pulled Dean out of perdition and it is clear that he has been drawn the most to Dean among all the humans he has known. Although he's friends with Sam too, his bond with Dean is more profound, as he himself admits. In the recent episode, "Destiny's Child," Cas remarks about Dean that he feels things more acutely than any other human he has ever known. This itself is proof enough of the extent to which the two know each other. They fight like any other couple and they make up. Destiel is a couple for the ages.
