The Mindy Project changed significantly when Mindy's son Leo was born. Mindy Lahiri is an amazing doctor, mother, and friend but she can also be selfish and self-seeking. We see her true self come out when Leo is born. She loved being a mom but she also missed being a working mom — a mom that can be seen carrying her chic baby in a fashionable stroller. And her deteriorating relationship with Danny didn't help her.
Out of all the men on The Mindy Project for Mindy to copulate with, Danny was number one for years but once his controlling "father bear" side came out, viewers wished Mindy chose someone else to have a baby with. But with who? Josh was a train wreck, Jamie didn't know what he wanted, and Dennis was boring. Let's take a look back at ten of Mindy's exes who would have been better baby daddies and partners than Danny.
10 Cliff
Cliff and Mindy met in a rather dramatic way but this couple had a ton of potential. Had it not been for Danny interrupting their flow, these two could have been endgame. Cliff really cared for Mindy and that proved true when he helped her with her taxes when they were broken up. He seemed to love everything about Mindy but was also a very good soundboard for her. He would have made an excellent father to her child and a good partner to Mindy.
9 Casey
Was Casey the one that got away? Besides Danny and Ben, Casey was the closest Mindy ever got to walking down the aisle. Casey made Mindy a better person and opened her eyes to a lot of things she never thought about before. With Casey's help, she tried new things and became braver.
Likewise, she allowed Casey to open up and explore his dreams without being judged. These two were good together but both needed time to grow. If these two ended up hooking up at that pool party in LA and she got pregnant, it could have been the right time for her ideal romantic fantasy.
8 Morgan
From a distance, Morgan doesn't seem like the ideal partner for Mindy. She grows annoyed of him often and he acts like a kid himself. However, there's no denying that these two are a great team.
Hypothetically, let's say Mindy and Morgan made love "Magic Morgan" and the man she fell in love with was Morgan. He already calls her his queen and treats her like she's made of glass, so there's no denying that he wouldn't do everything in his power to make Mindy and that baby happy. He's also incredibly goofy, which would make for a wonderful dad.
7 Peter
Peter's always been an odd dude but everyone at Shulman and Associates came to respect and admire him by the end of the series. He became Mindy's OBGYN when she was pregnant with Leo and she also referred to him as her best friend.
She's the one who helped Peter find a place to live in Danny's apartment building and liked hanging out with him more than Danny. If these two shared a night of passion and conceived, there's no denying that Peter and Mindy wouldn't step up to be great co-parents together.
6 Zander
Mindy met Zander when they were both students at Princeton University. They both lost their virginities to each other and let bygones be bygones. While Mindy saw Zander as a cute guy she wanted to lose her virginity to, Zander had deep feelings for Mindy. It was because of Mindy that he went on to become a billionaire in the tech world.
The two ran into each other when Mindy was in San Francisco for her fellowship and reminisced on old times. However, if Mindy wasn't with Danny at this time and she and Zander went home with each other, Mindy would be all over the opportunity to share a baby with a billionaire.
5 Leland Breakfast
Leland Breakfast showed up in the fifth season as a friend of Jeremy's (even though he doesn't remember him well). He's incredibly arrogant but hits it off with the ladies, except for Mindy. It was because of Mindy's disapproval of him that he became more interested in her. After her relationship with Ben doesn't go as planned, she agreed to a date with Leland. And while he's pretentious, he's successful in the world of theater and knows celebrities. Becoming pregnant with Leland's baby might not end in a relationship like in The Notebook, but there's no telling where it could lead them.
4 Sam
Sam and Mindy were totally in sync. They met each other at summer camp when they were 13 and ran into each in their adult years. As it turned out, Sam was in the Army and only had a short time with Mindy but the two made the most of it. Unlike many of the people Mindy dates, Sam made her laugh and they had the same sense of humor. If Sam were around longer than an episode, these two would have made a lovely couple and even better parents. We're not sure she'd make a great Army wife though...
3 Ben
Mindy and Ben's relationship seemingly came out of nowhere but it was less complicated than her serious relationship with Danny. For a lack of a better word, Ben is normal. He's a pediatric nurse, he's level-headed, and he's un-complicated. Sure, he was seeing other women on the side but that's before he and Mindy became exclusive. When Mindy and Ben got married, things made sense because they were both single parents. Combining their families—and even having more children—could have been the sweet ending fans were hoping Mindy would have.
2 Brendan
Brendan was one-half of the Duplass brothers. He was a holistic midwife who shared completely different values as Mindy. He believed in cleansing the mind, body, and spirit and living wholly while Mindy was a medical doctor who lived by science. The two had nothing in common and yet there was this strange force between them. They had chemistry and they tried to see where that chemistry took them.
These two didn't work out, which wasn't a real shocker, but Brendan was a caring person. If Mindy did get pregnant with his baby, it's obvious he would take the high road and do everything he could to make his and Mindy's baby a priority.
1 Charlie Lang
Charlie Lang may have been older than Mindy but wow, these two were intriguing. Charlie was a New York City cop who didn't understand a thing Mindy said in terms of pop culture references but he was the whole package. He was a man, had a successful job, and loved New York as much as Mindy did. If Mindy wound up pregnant with his baby, he already had a daughter he loved and protected, so there's no telling how sweet he would be with a new baby.
