The savage world of The Vampire Diaries is not entirely unlike the world of Game of Thrones. Yes, they both exist in entirely different universes, but ultimately they're both stories of flawed characters who are doing whatever they can to survive or thrive in a place where danger is around every corner.
So then, if the characters of The Vampire Diaries found themselves trapped within the world of Westeros, where exactly would they fit? More specifically, which house would each TVD character belong in?
10 Jeremy Gilbert - House Black
Jeremy Gilbert may have began his journey on the series as little more than a tormented teenage edgelord, but it seems safe to say that he developed into one seriously badass and dedicated vampire hunter in the end.
So it only makes sense that Jeremy would fit right into the Night's Watch of House Black, as these are men who have devoted their lives to protecting the realm from the supernatural entities that threaten it.
9 Klaus Mikaelson - House Targaryen
Klaus Mikaelson might just be the most extraordinary creature in the entire world of TVD, and he certainly knows it. He doesn't hold himself to the rules and regulations of normal people, he thinks that he alone has been chosen for his station in the world, and he thinks it's his right to single-handedly rule the supernatural world.
Does that sound like a Targaryen to anyone?
8 Katherine Pierce - House Reyne
In the television series, House Reyne warranted little more than a mention, and it's demise was a warning to all those in Westeros about what might happen to those who aim too high. And in that sense, Katherine Pierce fits right in with them.
She might be alive, but her entire family was destroyed because she dared to go up against someone who was far more powerful than she.
7 Tyler Lockwood - House Stark
Yes, Tyler is a werewolf, and no, he doesn't belong in House Stark solely because he meshes well with their sigil.
Tyler was a complete ass at the beginning of The Vampire Diaries, however he is one of the only people in the series who actually became a better person as a result of his trials and tribulations, and he is one of the very few characters who seemed to be concerned about not just his survival, but with what was morally right and wrong.
6 Matt Donovan - House Tully
The Tullys are certainly not a flamboyant house, and no one would call them the most powerful house in Westeros, but they are decent people who can generally be relied on to do the right thing when asked to do it.
Also, they will fight fiercely for their family and the people that they love, which is very much what Matt Donovan would do.
5 Bonnie Bennett - House Hightower
The Hightowers are a house that are significant in the books but not a part of the series. However, they are perfect for Bonnie and the entire Bennett clan.
The Hightowers are a secretive and incredibly ancient house of Westeros who like to keep a low profile but are actually enormously powerful. They also allegedly like to experiment with magic and mysticism, so obviously they'd be home to someone like Bonnie.
4 Caroline Forbes - House Martell
The Martells are another family that are perceived to be somewhat weak, but that perception doesn't match reality. They're quite capable game players when it comes down to it, and they're extremely loyal to those they love.
Their house words are "unbowed, unbent, unbroken", and that kind of attitude seems to match Caroline Forbes very well.
3 Elena Gilbert - House Tyrell
Although the Tyrells managed to get quite far in Game of Thrones, the truth is that they were really golden roses in a world of lions and wolves.
They relied on their charms to get what they wanted, but ultimately they were too far outmatched by their rivals to survive. Unfortunately for Elena Gilbert, her story seems to mirror the story of the Tyrells quite well.
2 Stefan Salvatore - House Baratheon
The Baratheon family thought the wanted power, just as Stefan believed that he wanted to be a vampire, but unfortunately their desires got them in over their heads and they wound up in a miserable life that wasn't what they were dreaming of at all.
They're also an incredibly proud and stubborn house who think that they know best, but are often proven to be wrong, just like Steffy.
1 Damon Salvatore - House Greyjoy
Oh, dear House Greyjoy. They're always doing the exact wrong thing at the exact wrong time, trying to pretend that they're total hardasses, only to tear the world apart and ultimately realize that they made the worst choices imaginable when it's too late to fix it.
If ever there were a Game of Thrones house that Damon Salvatore would fit right into, it's the house of the kraken.
