Dragon Ball Super: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Vegeta's Super Saiyan God Form

There have been many Super Saiyan transformations in Dragon Ball, from the original Super Saiyan form that Goku debuted during his fight with Frieza on Namek to Vegeta's Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Evolved transformation that the Saiyan prince showcased during the Tournament of Power's latter stages.

Almost none have stirred as much controversy as Vegeta's Super Saiyan God transformation, with many fans believing he didn't even have access to it for a while. Although Goku was the first to discover it, Vegeta has donned the same crimson aura for some of his own battles, and while his Super Saiyan God form is pretty cool to look at, there are a few things that most fans may not know about the transformation as it relates to Vegeta.

10 Vegeta Gained Access To This Form Through Training With Whis

Goku gained access to the Super Saiyan God transformation through a special ritual that required five righteous Saiyans to bestow the divine power to their equally righteous ally.

Vegeta never underwent such a ritual, proving that it isn't the only way to attain the powers of a Super Saiyan God. Through training with Whis, he learned how to harness god ki, giving him access to any transformation relying on this unique energy.

9 It's Featured In Fewer Games That Goku's Super Saiyan Red Form

Goku's Super Saiyan God form has pretty much been featured in every videogame released after Battle of Gods, while Vegeta's Super Saiyan God form wasn't in some of those same titles. It doesn't appear in the first Xenoverse, as well as Battle of ZExtreme Butoden, and even Dragon Ball Fusions.

Even in the case of Xenoverse 2, Vegeta's Super Saiyan God form was added as the 9th DLC for the game, nearly 3 years after its initial release.

8 Vegeta's Hair Is A Slightly Different Shade Of Red Than Goku's

While both Goku and Vegeta possess that same fiery aura after transforming into Super Saiyan Gods, Goku's hair appears a bit more magenta, while Vegeta's hair looks a little more crimson.

Much of this might have to do with specific levels of shading favored by whichever animators were in charge of drawing certain scenes. Regardless, the most observant of Dragon Ball fans will be able to notice the tiny differences in the hues of their hair color.

7 It's Used To Supplement Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Form

At least in Dragon Ball Super's anime, Super Saiyan God was utilized during the battle against Beerus, but after Goku and Vegeta discovered how to channel their god powers when going Super Saiyan, the form quickly became obsolete. It was through more training and their fight with Zamasu that Vegeta and Goku realized that they could use the form to supplement their imperfect Super Saiyan Blue powers.

Vegeta especially, having not attained the transformation known as Perfected Super Saiyan Blue, was forced to rely on his Super Saiyan God transformation to still grant him a considerable boost over his regular Super Saiyan forms, while enabling him to conserve energy until he made definitive strikes against powerful opponents.

6 Vegeta Invented The Super Saiyan God-to-Blue Switching Technique In The Manga

Dragon Ball Super anime fans can never forget the iconic moment where Goku switched between Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue to conserve stamina during his fight with Dyspo. While it's easy to believe that only a combat genius like Goku could create such a strategy (especially since it's so similar to how he uses the Kaioken), many fans don't know that in the manga, Vegeta created this strategy to deal with Goku Black.

Since Super Saiyan Blue drains so much stamina, Vegeta switched between his god forms, adopting the stronger one at the moment of attack in order to maximize the damage dealt to Goku Black. This not only proved that the Super Saiyan God transformation was not as useless as some fans might think, but it also proves that Vegeta is a combat genius whose battle strategies can compete, or even be just like Goku's.

5 Vegeta's Mastered This Transformation (Just Like Goku)

While Saiyans struggle to master transformations, with Goku not yet able to control the immense energy drain Super Saiyan 3 places on his body, for example, both Goku and Vegeta have mastered the Super Saiyan God form.

This is evident by the fact that Vegeta can push his god powers to the next level (Super Saiyan Blue) without any significant detriment.

4 Vegeta First Debuted This Form In The Manga

The first place fans ever laid eyes on Super Saiyan God Vegeta was in the 22nd chapter of Dragon Ball Super's manga. As expected, he put these newfound powers to good use in the fight against Zamasu and Goku Black.

3 It Did Not Appear For The Entirety Of The Dragon Ball Super Anime

After continuing to improve his control over his Super Saiyan Blue transformation, Goku didn't really utilize the Super Saiyan God transformation after his fight with Beerus (at least in the anime). Vegeta never used it in the anime at all, causing many fans to question if he even had access to the form, to begin with.

This question was finally put to rest in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, when Vegeta utilized the transformation in his fight against Broly, to the shock of many fans.

2 Goku Has A Better Handle On The Form Than Vegeta

Though two Saiyans might possess the same transformation, Dragon Ball has shown fans time and time again that the stronger Saiyan will always come out on top. When Goku and Vegeta both demonstrated their mastery over the Super Saiyan God transformation, many fans felt that this was proof enough that they were equals, but there's tangible evidence as to why Vegeta's Super Saiyan God transformation is slightly weaker than Goku's. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Vegeta seemingly disposed of Broly with this form, but after Broly entered his Wrath State, Vegeta could barely keep up with him.

Goku stepped in, transforming into a Super Saiyan God as well, and as shown in the movie, Broly's power only rose with each second. Though Goku was ultimately overpowered, he was able to utilize a new technique to hold Broly still for a few seconds, and even managed to exchange a few close blows with him before Broly's power became too much for him to handle. If anything, this speaks for Goku's proficiency with the form over Vegeta, since Goku worked out more inventive techniques exclusive to this form than just another straight energy blast.

1 The Original Super Saiyan God Closely Resembles Vegeta

Apparently, Goku wasn't the first Super Saiyan in history. There was a warrior by the name of Yamoshi who discovered how to tap into a Saiyan's true potential, and it was this man who single-handedly became known as the "Super Saiyan God".

Yamoshi hasn't been seen in the anime (yet), but from images that have been shown thus far, he looks just like Vegeta, even down to the Saiyan battle armor that Vegeta just can't let go of.
