Fans also cannot forget how he comforted her through her hangover. He would have made a great boyfriend.
3 Parental Issues
Surprisingly, the one thing that could have united Lily and Barney was their parental issues. Considering the strained relationships they had with their fathers, you would have thought there would at least be one moment where they bonded over this.
Especially since their fathers' neglect/absence affected them growing up. If fans really think about it, Barney and Lily get each other more than Ted and Marshall ever would.
2 They Balance Each Other Out
One of the more obvious reasons as to why Barney and Lily would have made the perfect couple is because they balance each other out. Where Barney was energetic, adventurous, and reckless, Lily was calm, mature, and responsible. Where Barney was a commitment-phobe, Lily wasn't.
If these two had gotten together, they would have balanced each other's personalities. They would have also pushed each other to be better, with Barney helping Lily to be less uptight and she helping him to be less guarded. A lot of wasted potential here...
1 Grand Gestures
One of the main reasons that proved Barney and Lily would have been a great couple was the grand gestures they did for one another. For instance, Barney was the reason Lily returned to New York after he traveled to San Francisco and bought her a plane ticket. He also helped her gatecrash a junior prom so she could see a band she liked.
In return, Lily repaid the favor by pretending to be his wife and scaring off his dates. She was also the reason why Barney got the courage to make his relationship with Robin official. For someone to put this much effort in proves how much they cared for one another. They probably would have been the most romantic couple on the show...
