Josh Gad Reenacts Back To The Future To Promote Cast Reunion

Josh Gad reenacts a classic Back to the Future scene alongside Lea Thompson to promote the cast's upcoming reunion. The Frozen and Beauty and the Beast star recently began a webseries called Reunited Apart, where he hosts cast reunions while everyone is in quarantine because of the coronavirus pandemic. The first episode saw the cast of The Goonies gather to reminisce about their experiences and favorite memories. It also raised money for charity, as will the upcoming Back to the Future episode, which will arrive online next Monday.

Often considered one of the best films of all time, there are likely very few people who aren't familiar with Back to the Future. Robert Zemeckis' 1985 classic follows Marty McFly's (Michael J. Fox) adventures after he's accidentally sent back in time to 1955 by his friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). While there, he meets his teenage parents (Thompson and Crispin Glover) and must ensure they actually fall in love to ensure his own existence. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently declared it a perfect movie, and he didn't seem to be alone in his assessment.

To start hyping fans up for the Back to the Future episode of Reunited Apart, Gad posted an awkwardly amusing video of him and Thompson reenacting the scene from the film where Marty meets his mother for the first time in 1955. Of course, Gad's take updates the dialogue a bit, with some nods to his role in The Book of Mormon on Broadway and the ongoing pandemic. You can see the scene for yourself in the space below:

Marty's interactions with his parents in 1955 have led some to believe there's a plot hole present in the film; that Lorraine and George McFly should recognize their son in the present day as someone they met in high school. Gunn even acknowledged the plot hole while praising Back to the Future. However, Back to the Future co-writer Bob Gale recently cleared it up with a very reasonable explanation.

While this is hardly the first time the Back to the Future cast has reunited, their meet-up now is coming at exactly the right time. The coronavirus pandemic has greatly impacted almost every aspect of every day life, and people are struggling to find some rays of positivity. Seeing people like Fox, Lloyd, and Thompson gather again in honor of a beloved film might bring some smiles to people's faces during this difficult time. Plus, now that Back to the Future is officially on Netflix, could there ever be a better time to revisit the movie?
