There will be no reshoots or additional work for Zack Snyder's Justice League according to a brand new report. Fans of the Release the Snyder Cut movement are still thrilled with the news that Snyder will finally be able to bring his vision for the Warner Bros. and DC Films ensemble project to life. While the new version won't be released in theaters, its roll out through HBO Max allows the filmmaker to be as creative as he can with regard to how he wants to finish his movie.
Snyder himself confirmed that his Justice League will be released through the upcoming streaming platform next year during his watch party for Man of Steel. This followed weeks of speculations regarding the much-clamored cut finally seeing the light of day despite Warner Bros.' seeming indifference to the matter for the longest time. Apparently, it was the second year anniversary for the film, when the Release the Snyder Cut movement received their biggest press with the additional support from big names like Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot, that piqued the interest of the studio and led to talks with Snyder.
With news that Snyder's Justice League is releasing to the public, earlier reports had claimed that the filmmaker reached out to the cast for potentially coming back and doing some additional work. New information, however, reveals that this might not be the case. According to a report from Umberto Gonzalez on The Wrap Podcast, while Snyder pitched this idea during his meeting with the Warner Bros. executives, HBO Max declined. Instead, any new material will be from post-production work.
“There’s not going to be any reshoots of any kind with any actors,” Gonzalez said. “It’s just additional dialogue. Here’s something that hasn’t been reported yet: (Snyder) did want to shoot and he wanted to do additional photography but HBO Max said no, that’s not happening. We’ll give you money for post-production, for special effects, for scoring, and even ADR but no reshoots of any kind on this movie.”
“This movie is basically one and done. This is to … close the loop, to finish the story. Maybe not the whole story, cause he did have like a three to five-picture plan. But this Snyder-verse, I’ll call it, will end with the Snyder Cut. Don’t expect any spinoffs for Batman or with Ben Affleck as Batman or any of that.”
It's worth noting that this new information isn't from Warner Bros./HBO Max or Snyder, so it's best to take it with a pinch of salt. There's no set budget yet for the upcoming Justice League project, so there's no word yet on what the filmmaker is able to do for his version of the movie. For what it's worth, Snyder has also teased a Martian Manhunter reveal fully playing out in the film which still needs to be shot. Storyboards for the said scene feature Martha visiting Lois to offer some emotional support following the death of Superman (Henry Cavill). After Martha leaves, she transforms into Martian Manhunter before finally turning into General Swanwick (Harry Lennix).
No word yet what form Zack Snyder's Justice League will take when it releases on HBO Max next year. Reports say that it can either be a 4-hour movie or a TV mini-series, with the filmmaker personally pitching the project with episodes and cliffhangers, but there's no verdict on that yet. Chances are that everything will boil down to the budget allotted for the project.
