Will & Grace came to an end (again) at the end of April as the sitcom said goodbye for a second time after being resurrected for three more seasons, 12 years after it originally ended in 2005. As one of the only sitcoms with a principally gay main character and one of the most successful, the series followed the lives of best friends Will and Grace who lived together and would make a perfect couple if but for one small detail: Will is gay.
The show has always been hilarious and was just as hilarious this go around. Now that the story has officially ended, what do we like (and dislike) about how things ended? (Note: obvious spoilers ahead).
10 Dislike: We Didn't Meet Grace's Baby
The series ended with Grace heading out to the hospital to deliver her baby. It seemed like viewers got cheated out of a scene with Grace in the hospital bed after having delivered her bundle of joy.
The sentiment was that all was going to be OK. Still, it would have been nice to have seen a little red-headed boy in Grace's arms and Will looking on as a proud uncle as a way to end the long-running and popular series.
9 Like: Will And Grace Will Stay Together
While the ideal situation would see Will and Grace both move on with their lives and not continue to live together as roommates, the reality is that they tried this before and it didn't really work.
The idea that they will be there for one another as they raise their children together is great. Sure, one might find romantic love down the line and have to move out, or maybe even have their lover move in! Nonetheless, they are worrying right now about what's most important and that's the kids.
8 Dislike: They Didn't Find Lasting Romantic Love
They don't have to find romantic love in order to be fulfilled in life. With both about to have babies, it's clear they've decided that this is what will fulfill them. Still, it would have been nice to see either of them finally meet the person of their dreams.
Maybe the lesson is that they are meant to be with one another, even if they can't be romantic partners. Still, they both deserve to find someone who will love them in that way.
7 Like: Their Kids Will Grow Up Together
In one final scene, Will imagines their two kids sitting together, reading as toddlers with a huge smile on his face. Their kids would have been friends, either way, but with them living together, the kids will basically be like brother and sister and will grow up to be as close as Will and Grace are.
They are the same age, one boy and one girl. So while the "family" isn't exactly conventional, it will be a loving home for both kids, nonetheless.
6 Dislike: Karen Got Back With Stanley
While Karen really seemed to be devoted to Stanley (minus the affair, of course), truly in love with him for more than his money, we wish she could have moved on. Though everything she did seemed to always bring her back to her Stanley.
This one is tough, as while it was nice to see them find themselves back with one another thanks to Stanley's extravagant gesture, shouldn't Karen find someone who she could enjoy time with like she does Jack? Or is that Jack's void to fill?
5 Like: Jack Finally Appeared On Broadway
After years of being an out-of-worker and, let's face it, not a very good actor, Jack finally got a paying gig. After a series of events that led to all of the understudies before him falling ill, Jack got to appear in a play on Broadway.
Sure, it was a big deal and who knows, maybe it would lead to bigger and better things for Jack. In any case, he was over the moon at the opportunity. And if acting doesn't work out, at least he now owns a bar (maybe?) and has a job (still?) at the rec center.
4 Dislike: Things Were Left Open-Ended With McCoy
It seemed like a cheap way to reintroduce McCoy, who returned to New York and wanted to start things up again with Will. They were good together but he didn't want kids. Now he wants to start things up again?
What will happen when Will moves 40 minutes away? Will he still date McCoy or want to move back to the city to be with him? It leaves too many questions unanswered.
3 Like: They Are All Still Close
At the heart of the show, Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen are all close friends. And from the looks of it, they will remain this way. While Karen and Jack will remain as close as ever in New York with their respective spouses, they will likely go to visit Will and Grace, especially if Karen remains involved in the local baseball team.
Meanwhile, Will and Grace will be living together in a much bigger home and a small city. They won't all be an apartment door away, but they'll be together, nonetheless.
2 Dislike: What Happens To Grace's Business?
Grace was a very successful interior designer who probably won't have nearly as many clients in her hometown as she would in New York. Of course, she's going to take time off to spend with the baby, but what happens when it's time to go back to work?
Will she commute 40 minutes back and forth each day? That isn't exactly uncommon and it sounds like she can take a train. Still, it seems like her business aspirations may suffer because of the move in a way they might not have had she stayed in New York with her baby. She made the decision to move far too easily without worrying about the career she needed to be able to pay for the house in the first place.
1 Like: They Were All Happy In The End
In the end, whatever decisions they made, the most important thing is that they were all happy and confident that they were the right ones.
Jack and Karen had a hilarious slapping match to confirm that they were still themselves and life wouldn't change. And Grace assured Will that she was happy for him if McCoy came back into his life. The way things ended certainly left things open for another reboot, or even a final movie! Fingers crossed.
