10 Overlooked Action Stars Who Deserve More Love (& Their Best Movie)

Sometimes the best opportunities don't always go to the most deserving people. This applies to the actors below. Despite putting up a string of good performances in the action movie genre, they have been constantly overlooked for the best roles in big-budget films.

As a result, these actors have constantly settled for lead roles in direct-to-video movies or supporting roles in the popular movies that they are occasionally considered for. They definitely deserve much better. Here are the ten action stars that are constantly overlooked.

10 Michael Jai White

Michael Jai White is mostly recognized as the gang leader whose mouth got sliced by The Joker in The Dark Knight after the iconic villain uttered the "why so serious?" line. But away from that, Michael Jai White is a common famous in straight-to-video action movies.

The actor has belts in seven different martial art forms. His best movie is definitely Black Dynamite. The movie centers on a former CIA agent and Vietnam war veteran who vows to clean up the streets and eliminate all drug dealers after his brother gets killed.

9 Luke Goss

Luke Goss started his career as a member of a boy band before switching to acting in the year 2000. Since then, he has appeared in over 40 action films. Most of them have gone direct-to-video but he doesn't seem to mind since he keeps churning them at an amazing rate.

One of his most popular roles is that of the racer Frankenstein which he took over from Jason Statham. However, his best movie is definitely Interview With A Hitman in which he played a contract killer. The movie ended up having an incredible twist.

8 Iko Uwais

Uwais is best-known as the ass-kicking police rookie Rama in The Raid. The movie is widely thought of as one of the best action movies ever made but despite the extraordinary performance of Uwais, he hasn't really transitioned into a major Hollywood star.

He has also appeared alongside Mark Whalberg in Mile 22 but the movie failed to really take off. Lately, he has had a lead role in the Netflix series Wu Assasins. Given his unique martial arts skills, he definitely deserves to be Hollywood's next Jet Li.

7 Scott Adkins

Scott Adkins features a lot in the direct-to-video action releases. It's a shame really because he has all it takes to be a major Hollywood action star including the looks and the real-life martial arts skills. On the rare occasions where he has appeared in blockbuster films, he has had very little screen time.

Scott had limited roles in Doctor Strange and The Expendables 2. He has also been talked about as a contender for the next James Bond. (He is British after all). His greatest ever performance was in the movie Undisputed where he played Russian boxer Yuri Boyka.

6 Gina Carano

Gina is known for performing 100% of her stunts in movies. The fact that she has a solid background in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) helps. She competed for various MMA championships between 2006 and 2009. She has also worked as a fitness trainer.

Lately, she has had roles in Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool, and in the popular TV series The Mandalorian where she plays Cara Done. Her best movie is undoubtedly Haywire where she plays a black ops operative who gets betrayed by her employers. Carano's performance was widely praised by fans and critics.

5 Cuba Gooding Jr.

Even though Cuba Gooding Jr. has an Oscar, he is barely in the conversation when people talk about the best actors in Hollywood. Cuba started his career with challenging roles in films such as A Few Good Men but later drifted to action movies.

He has done quite well in this genre but his performances haven't been well-received by critics. Linewatch stands out as his best action movie. Starring alongside Breaking Bad's Dean Norris, Cuba plays a border patrol agent who finds himself fighting against a deadly militia group.

4 Maggie Q

Maggie Q did an excellent job as the secret agent Nikita but despite proving herself as a talented action star, she has failed to land roles in big-budget movies in recent years. Before she was Nikita, she had lead roles in Mission Impossible III and Live Free Or Die Hard.

However, ever since the CW series ended, her only other notable role has been that of Agent Hannah Wells in Designated Survivor. Unfortunately, the series was canceled. Her most impressive movie role was that of the badass cyberterrorist Mia Linh in Live Free Or Die Hard.

3 Frank Grillo

Grillo not only looks like a tough guy but he acts really well too. The actor has had supporting roles in a few blockbusters but most of his best work can be seen in the numerous B-movies in which he has had lead roles.

He also played the Marvel villain Brock Rumlow/Crossbones though his appearance was brief. His best-ever performance came in the Netflix film Wheelman in which he played a getaway driver who was part of a botched bank heist.

2 Danny Trejo

Despite Danny Trejo appearing in hundreds of action movies, he rarely gets recognized as one of the best actors in the genre. The actor has an interesting background. He started out doing manual jobs, mostly as a labor foreman in construction sites.

He later found himself in jail and while he was out on parole, he got offered his first role by a director who felt he looked like a proper tough guy. His best movie is Machete where he plays a Mexican federal agent who is on a mission to save a kidnapped girl.

1 Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler has had a few blockbusters but most of his work has been in the B-category. Most of his movies tend to irk critics but fans always seem to enjoy them. Even though Butler is rarely called upon by the big studios, he has proven time and time again that he is one of the greatest action stars of all time.

More recently, he has showcased some of his best-ever performances in Angel Has Fallen and the heist film Den Of Thieves. However, his best movie has to be 300 in which he plays the brave Spartan leader King Leonidas who leads an army of 300 men against the Persians.
