Gotham: 5 Times We Hated Cat (& 5 Times We Felt Bad For Her)

Selina Kyle, AKA Cat is a villain, although most don't see her as one in the Gotham TV show. She is self-centered but independent which means that she makes some very big mistakes. However, she is also subjected to some horrible situations that leave fans pitying her.

Cat goes on a wonderful journey throughout the 5 seasons of Gotham. She begins as a lonely independent pickpocket and evolves into a badass villain, who still has a soft spot for Bruce Wayne. Even though she goes through a huge change, she remains the young, and often naive, person fans see in the first episode. This leaves many viewers pitying her for being taken advantage of, or simply hating her for making the wrong decisions.

10 Hated Her: Not Saving Others

When Selina and a group of young homeless children find themselves being lured over to a couple with the promise of food, the viewers and Selina instantly know it's a trap. However, even with this knowledge, Cat does nothing to help the poor victims of this kidnapping.

Although she is still a villain, fans are left frustrated at her lack of morals after they know that Cat was fully capable of saving the poor children. Nevertheless, she sneaks away and ends up being caught by them another time, allowing her to be redeemed as she saves the children from a horrific situation.

9 Felt Bad: Her Background

Like any good villain or hero in the DC universe, everyone has a story and a reason to be who they are, and Selina is no different. However, her story is hinted at a lot more than others and makes viewers feel terrible for the poor orphan.

Despite her mother being alive, Cat is ultimately an orphan who was abandoned and left to fend for herself. She has fought all her life and struggled to survive while being ignored by most people. Not only that, but when she finally meets her mother she learns that she is a con woman and not who she expected. The whole meeting is heartbreaking to watch.

8 Hated Her: Breaking And Entering

Cat is known as being a thief, but that doesn't stop people from getting annoyed at her when she steals. Especially just for the fun of it.

Most don't feel too bad when she breaks into the Wayne mansion as it's clear that if anything went wrong, Alfred would be there to protect both Bruce (and Selina, if it came to it). However, the many times she breaks into stores just for the fun of it, which is just despicable and unnecessary, leaving many fans questioning her motives and disliking her.

7 Felt Bad: Impressionable

Selina has been on the streets all her life. So you would think she would have learned not to make bad decisions or be manipulated. Nevertheless, she is constantly manipulated into doing the wrong things at the beginning of the show.

She is manipulated into joining up with countless crime bosses, just so she does their dirty work and so she can feel powerful, when in fact her life is in danger. She is so impressionable that for the most part, others tell her how to act and what to do. Perhaps if she had spent more time with Bruce then she could have been good.

6 Hated Her: Murder

Although Cat is a thief, most fans and characters end up forgiving her. However, one thing no one can forgive her for is murder. She pushes Reginald Payne out of a window so he doesn't spill the information he knows. This is rather similar to her own fate later on in the show.

It's clear that fans aren't the only people hating her for this act, and Bruce and Cat get into a huge fight about it. Rightly so, as it was unnecessary and a true glimpse into Cat's evil side.

5 Felt Bad: Being Good

The whole point around Selina Kyle is her battle between being good and bad. Throughout the show, she wrestles between power and Bruce which causes lots of heartbreak.

During all this, you can't help but feel sorry for her as she causes herself pain by choosing the wrong people, losing friends, and breaking hearts. It is a problem that she suffers from constantly and viewers can't help but pity her as she wrestles with her doubts.

4 Hated Her: Joining With Oswald

Although Oswald Cobblepot and Selina Kyle are beloved characters, the two shouldn't mix as much as they did when she worked for him.

Cat is independent, she is loyal but should always work alone or with someone, not for someone. Not only that, but she is treated horribly by Cobblepot, often referred to as his house cat rather than a human being. Although she doesn't seem to mind, preferring the power and the stability, most fans hate her for choosing this and wish she would be on her own again.

3 Felt Bad: Losing Bridget

While Cat should be alone, the friendships she makes are often pure of heart and sweet. For example, she takes Ivy under her wing and does everything she can do to keep her alive and well, despite her betraying her in the end.

This is the same with Bridget, AKA Firefly. She spends most of the season helping Bridget escape her horrific life and kill her criminal brothers who are manipulating her and forcing her to commit crimes she never wanted to do. Nevertheless, she becomes power-hungry and causes her self-destruction. This breaks Selina's heart and leaves viewers just as heartbroken as Selina while also feeling terrible that Cat is alone again.

2 Hated Her: Teaming Up With Barbara & Tabitha

It's undeniable that the three make one badass and extremely powerful team but you can't help but feel like Selina just doesn't belong in a place like that.

She is often treated as the child of the three and isn't given as much power as the other two, often being left behind on missions. Most times Selina teams up with someone like that, she gets pushed aside and treated like a child, as opposed to being treated with the respect she deserves. Although you don't necessarily hate Selina, you certainly hate her choices.

1 Felt Bad: Pushed Out Of The Window

When Selina gets pushed out the window by Bruce Wayne's clone 514A it's both unexpected and horrifying. After all, you had grown to love Selina and respect her, only for her to disappear instantly.

Her supposed death was a huge shock and watching her lay on the ground surrounded by cats is heartbreaking. It is impossible to not feel for the poor girl as she suffers horrible injuries that change her forever.
