Star Wars: Ewoks Without Fur Is A Horrific Sight You Can't Unsee

A behind the scenes shot from a Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker crew member shows just how horrific Ewok costumes look without their fur. A concept artist who worked on the final movie in the Skywalker Saga posted the shot, and it's unnerving and horrifying in equal measures.

Ewoks were first introduced to the Star Wars Universe in Return of the Jedi, the final film in the original trilogy. They are cute furry creatures who live on the forest moon of Endor, the base for the Empire in Jedi. They join forces with Leia and the other original trilogy cast and help defeat the Empire. Warwick Davis played the main Ewok, Wicket, in Return of the Jedi, in his first major film role, and has gone on to appear in a number of subsequent Star Wars movies. He is perhaps best known for his Star Wars roles, but has also appeared in a number of other high-profile movies, including playing Profressor Flitwick and the goblin Griphook in the Harry Potter series. He rounded out Wicket's narrative by making a cameo as the ewok alongside his real-life son in the final sequence of Rise of Skywalker.

In an Instagram post, Jake Lunt Davies,  who worked on all three Star Wars sequel films, as well as Star Wars: Rouge One and Solo: A Star Wars Story, showed just how eerie ewoks look without fur. The behind the scenes shot shows Davis in a white shell of an ewok costume, with just his wide eyes visible. The visual is unsettling, and more than a little terrifying. You can see the post below.

Lunt Davies admits that the visual is "scary stuff" and includes the humorous hashtag #sleepwell, referring to the nightmares his audience will likely experience after seeing the image. Ewoks have long been seen as a Star Wars creature that was designed specifically to sell toys to children, but this image puts an entirely new nightmarish spin on the cute and cuddly critters. Rather than looking like you'd love to cuddle one, this furless costume looks like it would rather haunt the local mansion.

As terrifying as it is, the post provides a nice insight into the behind the scenes process on a large blockbuster production like Rise of Skywalker. One would assume that there would be a number of old Wicket costumes lying around for Davis to try on, so it's enlightening to see that a custom costume was made for the actor, even if it was just for a cameo appearance. However, we'd rather forget about seeing it, and remember Wicket in his final on-screen appearance as the furry ewok we've all come to know.
