The Challenge: 10 Times The Producers Had To Step In | ScreenRant

First airing in 1998, MTV's The Challenge has remained one of the most entertaining shows to watch, and has just entered its 35th season. The competition, drama, and big personalities are the perfect recipe for chaos. From childish pranks to house gossip, the physical fights have stemmed from any and everything.

Although the producers have a zero-tolerance policy for physical fighting, it has not stopped contestants from throwing punches. Tensions are always running high, and one wrong comment can send fists flying. Here's a look at some of the biggest fights that required the production team to step in. Are they petty? Yes. Are they worth re-watching? Of course!

10 Season 4: Real World/Road Rules Extreme Challenge - Ayanna & Christian

This altercation was the first in Challenge history, which led to the first disqualification or "DQ" of the series. In the 6th episode of the season, Ayanna believed Christian made a racist joke to Laterrian. She took it upon herself to set him straight with some kicks and punches.

Although the fighting happened off-camera, it still led the producers to remove Ayanna from the remainder of the season and replace her with Susie. However, Ayanna would get a couple more chances at winning the show when she reappeared for both Battle of the Sexes and Battle of the Sexes II.

9 Season 9: Battle of the Sexes II - Steven & Shane

This fight arose during the "Cast a Spell" challenge, where the competitors had to remain silent. To Steven, silence meant that he was clear for charades. It was apparent the rest of his team wasn't on board.

When they were allowed to talk, Shane told Steven that his gestures were unnecessary and distracting, so Steven put his hands in Shane's face. Shane pushed his hands away and Steven slapped him in the face. Although much less physical than other fights throughout the show, production wouldn't let it slide and sent Steven packing.

8 Season 13: The Duel - Tina & Beth

Tina and Beth didn't seem so fond of each other, and that came to a head following the "Ring Toss" challenge. It was as if Tina was waiting for the perfect timing to accost Beth, so she took her chance. The punch Tina flung her way was mediocre at best. But no matter how lousy the hit, production showed no mercy and Tina was sent home.

She claimed the punch was worth the loss and felt good about her choice to get physical. Not many people agreed, but hey, to each their own.

7 Season 14: The Gauntlet - CT & Davis

It usually takes a few episodes for the cast members to get under each other's skin, but leave it to CT to start a fight on the very first night in the house. What started as a "fun" wrestling match between teammates CT and Kenny, took a downhill turn quite fast.

CT almost choked Kenny out and Kenny gave CT a bloody nose. The two argued for a little bit and managed to keep it at that. Off-camera, however, a drunken CT asked Davis if he could take a punch to the face. Davis said yes, to which CT took as the green light to give him a black eye. CT claimed he was blackout drunk and had no recollection of hitting Davis. It didn't matter to production, as CT was removed from the show later that evening.

6 Season 18: The Ruins - Tonya & Veronica

Both Tonya and Veronica were experienced players on The Challenge, with Tonya appearing in eight seasons, and Veronica appearing in 13. Their dislike for one another stemmed from their time in Inferno II, and seemed to have only grown over the years.

It wasn’t until Tonya’s last stint on The Ruins did the arguing take a physical turn. Supercharged from alcohol and sick of Veronica's bullying, Tonya took to slapping Veronica in the face multiple times. It took some of the male cast members to pull them away from each other, and ended with Tonya getting disqualified.

5 Season 18: The Ruins - Darrell & Brad

Drunken brawls don’t usually end up going so well, but throw a boxer into the mix and watch things go from bad to worse pretty fast. Darrell, an experienced boxer, held his cool for a while when Brad kept spewing insults, but at some point, he'd just had enough. A few punches to the face and Brad got himself one of the worst black eyes ever on the show.

Unlike many other contestants who fought, these two guys both admitted they were wrong for fighting, and even apologized to each other. But however nice their words were, it wasn't enough to keep them from being sent home.

4 Season 24: Rivals II - Adam & CT

Probably the most intense fight on The Challenge that needed producer intervention was between CT and Adam. Both contestants were featured on the Real World: Paris, where they first started to butt heads.

CT, known for his intensity and always ready for a fight was set to beat Adam down. From chasing Adam around the house, to getting a few punches in, it took multiple producers, cast members, and other staff to calm down CT. Like many fights that get this physical, this one resulted in both Adam and CT getting disqualified.

3 Season 29: Invasion of the Champions - Amanda, Laurel & Camila

This fight arose after Laurel pranked Amanda by putting chips in her bed. Amanda didn’t see the humor, and it wasn’t long before the two girls entered a screaming match.

The argument became physical when Camila, also called, “The Camilanator,” stepped in. Drunk and tired of Amanda, she aggressively cursed and yelled at Amanda. However, the producers managed to keep the fight from escalating and everyone was able to remain on the show.

2 Season 32: Final Reckoning - Cory & Tony

Maybe women are more widely known for acting out when they get the “hangries,” but Cory showed viewers how important it is to never get between a man and his food. On a ride back to the house, a drunk Taylor thought it’d be funny to take Cory’s pasta and throw it out the window. Devin attempted to talk Cory down when they reached the house, but it was no use. No sooner did Taylor playfully put his arm around Cory, did Cory basically body slam him to the ground.

Cory and Devin argued with Johnny Bananas, saying that Taylor slipped, but footage clearly showed otherwise. The producers reminded the cast of their zero tolerance for physical altercations, and both Cory and Tony were sent home.

1 Season 32: The Reckoning - Melissa & Kayla

These contestants just couldn't wait to go at it! On the first night of The Reckoning, Melissa and Kayla start to rehash old drama from their time on Vendettas.

Yelling in each other's face only lasted so long before the pushing and shoving started, followed by full-on attacking. Production made haste to break up the fight, but both Melissa and Kayla were sent home.
