The Death Star Makes 2020 Even Worse In Brilliant VFX Video

The infamous Death Star from Star Wars makes 2020 even worse in a brilliant VFX video. The dawn of the new decade has already seen plenty of downs and while considerably lacking positive upsides. The coronavirus pandemic effectively put a halt to numerous television shows and movies in production. Thanks to the coronavirus, many movies also set to premiere this year were delayed. In addition to that protests sprung up across the world after the death of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer. Not to mention J.K Rowling, author of the beloved Harry Potter series, came under fire again for making transphobic comments. After all of that the Death Star just appeared to be the next logical step in the year so far.

Star Wars fans were introduced to the might of the Death Star during the events of A New Hope. Grand Moff Tarkin torched the captive Princess Leia's home planet of Alderaan to bits with a single blast of the Death Star's laser in a cruel display of the planet-killer's power. Chronologically, the Death Star was first tested out in Rogue OneOnce again, Tarkin was at the helm, ordering a blast on Jedah. He later fired the weapon on the planet Scarif, killing Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso. However, their mission to steal the Death Star schematics was a success, and would later help Luke Skywalker destroy the first Death Star. Ironically, the overwhelming power of the Death Star only made the Rebel Alliance's victories more impactful in the long run.

VFX artist Aharon Rabinowitz summed up everyone's thoughts exactly on 2020 in a brilliant five second video. The clip shows a seemingly peaceful city until the camera pans to an ominous Death Star looming on the horizon. Countless comments on the video involved jokes about how the Death Star would actually improve 2020. Check out the video below, and don't forget to watch it with the sound on.

Like the short video proves, many images and plot devices from the Star Wars franchise are so famous their inclusion in social media posts don't require much explanation. Another example of this would be Mark Hamill approving of the Imperial March being played at the police at a protest in France. There is a lot of darkness going on in real life right now, and sometimes jokes involving Star Wars references are the dose of levity and humor so many people need.

With six months remaining in 2020, there is still hope thanks to Star Wars. After all, The Mandalorian season 2 is set to premiere in October. The Skywalker saga has come to an end, which means that new Star Wars films can venture into entirely unknown territory. Meanwhile, fans can also stream the Star Wars films and The Clone Wars on Disney+. As the rebels proved times and time again, there's always hope for the galaxy when there are people willing to fight for what's right. Even that can destroy a Death Star.
