Thor Becomes a Marvel Cyberpunk Hero in New Fan Art | Screen Rant

Chris Hemsworth's Thor is a cyberpunk hero in new Marvel fan art. Thor has become one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most reliable characters in recent years. Though he's always been a fan favorite, he became even more popular following Thor: Ragnarok. As the third movie in the Thor franchise, it reinvigorated both the character and the MCU leading into Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Following the events of those movies, Thor is one of the last remaining original Avengers, alongside Hawkeye and Hulk. He'll next be seen in Thor: Love and Thunder, which comes out in 2022.

Director Taika Waititi will also return for the fourth film, to the excitement of fans. He's offered several teases about the movie, such as an appearance by Starsharks. However, Thor: Love and Thunder's most unexpected surprise came at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, when Natalie Portman announced her return to the franchise. Though she was missing from Thor: Ragnarok, she'll be back as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, she'll also take on the mantle of Mighty Thor, which will add an interesting layer to her character. All told, Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the most highly anticipated films in MCU history.

For this reason, it makes sense many enjoy featuring Thor in fan art, especially lately. Digital artist Camille Vialet did so in recent art, putting a cyberpunk spin on the classic Marvel hero. In the caption, the artist explains the mashup was created in anticipation of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game coming out later this year. The art depicts Thor in a futuristic costume and wielding his ax, Stormbreaker. Check it out below:

This isn't the first time Thor has been depicted as a cyberpunk character; he joined fellow Avengers Captain America and Iron Man in another take on the concept last year. It makes sense, as the MCU is a natural fit for the cyberpunk world. The genre's focus on both technology and its connection to the mind is seen often in the MCU, especially through characters like Iron Man who rely on supersuits. However, Thor also looks quite at ease as a cyberpunk hero, ready to take on an enemy the same way he would in the MCU.

As the release date for Thor: Love and Thunder nears, fans will likely see even more fan art featuring Thor and the film's other returning characters. Art like this remains an important way to build excitement for a film and help fans imagine how a particular scenario may play out onscreen. However, in the case of the cyberpunk Thor art, it's more likely fans will want the hero to try a new genre on for size.
