Walking Dead’s Season 10 Finale Story Details Revealed By Director

The Walking Dead director Greg Nicotero reveals new story details about the delayed season 10 finale and promises fans' jaws are going to drop. The final episode of The Walking Dead season 10 was supposed to air on April 12, but it ended up getting delayed because the coronavirus pandemic impacted post-production work. Fans have eagerly awaited news of a new air date, but AMC has yet to name one. Furthermore, it isn't clear when season 11 of the beloved zombie show will get to begin production, according to star Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Walking Dead season 10 last left off with "The Tower" on April 5. The closing moments of the episode saw Beta (Ryan Hurst) leading a horde of walkers toward the abandoned hospital tower where several characters are hiding. Those inside the tower include Negan (Morgan), Judith (Cailey Fleming), and Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam). There's clearly a pretty big confrontation on the way, one that Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus teased is like a Game of Thrones-level battle. Between that and the other lingering plot threads, fans are desperate to see this last episode.

While talking to FANDOMNicotero hyped up The Walking Dead's season finale by revealing some story details. First, though, he insisted that the episode is "one of my favorite episodes of the season." He praised showrunner Angela Kang for her work on the finale and promised that the episode will pick up right where the last one left off. As for what the episode will focus on, Nicotero revealed, "There's a lot of character storylines that are [addressed] — you get little bits of information here, here, here, and you want to end that chapter and start the next chapter in the finale. We address lots of stuff with Daryl, lots of stuff with Negan, lots of stuff with Beta, lots of stuff with Carol."

Further increasing fans' excitement for the Walking Dead season 10 finale is the return of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) for the first time since early season 9. Earlier in season 10, Michonne (Danai Gurira) exited the series, so having Maggie back was welcome news for audiences. Nicotero didn't reveal much about the circumstances of Maggie's reappearance, but he give one last tantalizing tease by saying, "I think it's already been revealed that Maggie's return is in the finale, and it tees us up so well for Season 11 that it's a little agonizing for me to not be able to talk about it. Because the last two minutes of the finale, people's jaws are gonna drop."

One thing Nicotero didn't say is exactly when the season 1o finale will air, only that it will be later this year. There's a chance AMC is waiting to work out when production on The Walking Dead season 11 will begin before they set a date. However, as the pandemic has made a lot of things uncertain when it comes to the entertainment industry and film and television productions, it might be a while before that happens. This means fans are just going to have to be patient for a bit longer, which might be difficult considering all the teases Nicotero gave about the next episode.
