WWE Launches Free, Ad-Free Version of Streaming Network

WWE has announced a free, ad-free version of the streaming network. With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping much of the world’s population indoors and at home, streaming networks have been central in helping people to stay entertained. Of all the networks currently in operation, Netflix has proven to be a huge winner in terms of profits during these challenging times. Disney, despite its gigantic financial losses suffered due to postponed film productions and the closure of its theme parks, has also fared well with its streaming service, Disney+.

In fact, to date, not much has been able to stand in the way of streaming services finding success, though HBO’s recent launch of its service, HBO Max, was met with criticism when it failed to provide some of the content it had initially advertised. With all the attention heaped upon the various film and TV services, it’s easy to forget that subscription networks come in a variety of styles and focuses. The WWE has been running its own network since 2014 and has found considerable success with the service, which features both live and on-demand professional wrestling content.

Now, thanks to THR, fans know the WWE has decided to change up its streaming model in order to make room for something exciting. The wrestling organization officially launched a new service today, which is free of charge and ad-free. The new service is called the Free Version of WWE Network and offers unlimited access to the organization’s content, providing some great options for those who are fans of the WWE but don’t want to purchase (or can’t afford to purchase) a subscription to the premium offerings of WWE Network. Jay Donlan, executive vice president of advanced media at WWE said the network is: "a balance of providing a great experience for our fans by essentially offering unlimited access to a larger array of programming while still maintaining the value of our more premium content at $9.99 per month."

Indeed, the Free Version of WWE Network offers more than enough to keep the average WWE fan entertained. In addition to providing recent episodes of popular programming such as Friday Night SmackDown, NXT and Monday Night Raw, the network will also give viewers the chance to check out a wide range of new content, such as Raw Talk, Monday Night War, Ride Along, Table for 3, some pay-per-view programming, Top 10, and The Best of WWE. All in all, it’s a great way for fans to stay connected with their favorite wrestlers as well as WWE’s extensive content. It’s not often that ad-free and free of charge streaming networks arrive – particularly when the content is as popular as that provided by WWE. The concept of giving away content for free has actually worked in the organization’s favor in the past, resulting in a record number of sign ups in the lead up to this past year’s Wrestlemania event.

At present, all that is known about the Free Version of WWE Network is that it will be ad-free at launch. As of this writing, there has been no information regarding whether this latest WWE endeavor will permanently maintain its ad-free status, or if it’s simply been done as a means to entice higher viewer numbers. For now at least, the Free Version of WWE Network appears to be well worth checking out. Even if in the future it does switch to including ads alongside its content, there’s still plenty of reason for WWE fans to be excited over this newly arrived service.
