Christine "Bugsy" Drake is returning to Below Deck: Mediterranean. She last appeared in season 2 but is going to show off her deck walk during season five. Captain Sandy announced her return with aplomb.
Drake previously worked as a second stew on Below Deck with Hannah as the chief stew. She had no desire to repeat the experience, which was why she left. Captain Sandy ended up calling her to ask for Drake to return, promising that things would be different this time. Hannah, for her part, is going to retire after season 5, saying that she is seeking a change from yachting. Malia White is also returning, as shown in the trailer.
Decider broke the announcement happily. Drake is thrilled to be back, after being surprised to receive the call from Sandy, and hints that sparks may have flown in the limited quarters. She is hoping that she and Hannah can have a redemption arc and maybe improve their relationship. Drake says that she has grown up a lot since her previous time on the boat. Viewers so far are responding positively to the news about her return.
It's very easy to get out of sorts while on a boat with a crew, as the show has demonstrated. You're in an enclosed space, even on a larger yacht, and everyone has to work together to make sure the navigation and journey are smooth. The captain isn't always right, but you have to defer to them. It's no surprise, therefore, that Drake had issues with the chief stew since any work conflicts are further exacerbated when you can't leave for the shore. Gordon Ramsay, of chef fame, mentioned undergoing similar conflict when working on a yacht as a chef.
With Peter Hunziker getting fired, welcoming back a familiar face will be good for the crew's morale. They want to prove themselves in this season. Drake will show off her strut, and her maturity.
