Sometimes when wealthy high schoolers are portrayed in TV or film, they're fairly one-note, depicted as vapid people who only want to hang out at the mall. While the teens on Beverly Hills 90210 might love fashion, they have more more compelling personalities than these typical portrayals. This includes Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley), who moves to from Minnesota to Beverly Hills with his parents and twin sister, Brenda (Shannen Doherty).
Brandon is one of the best characters on this famous teen drama and he has a great personality overall, although there are some obvious flaws that he exhibits on the show.
10 Best: Helpful
Brandon's generally a helpful guy and that makes him an incredible friend. His friendship with Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris) is one of the best of the series as they connect while working on the school newspaper and then get to know each other.
Brandon will go out of his way to help anyone from a close friend to a stranger and he won't even think twice about it. This is one of his best traits as it's a truly nice way to behave.
9 Worst: Conceited
Even though Brandon is a really nice person, it's hard not to notice that he can be conceited from time to time. He's got a very comfortable and cushy life as he comes from a middle-class family, and although he doesn't have the same affluence as his new friends, he's not lacking for anything. This allows him to think that he's attractive and could do anything in life.
Brandon is pretty girl crazy as well, and he sometimes acts like he can date anyone who he wants, which can be a little off-putting.
8 Best: Caring
Brandon can be romantic and that's mostly because of how incredibly caring he is. Whether he's dealing with his parents, Brenda, or a love interest, he's going to try to bring them happiness and make sure that they're okay. Brandon is forever showing his compassionate side and it's very sweet.
7 Worst: Intrusive
One of Brandon's worst traits is how intrusive he can be. His desire to assist literally anyone he meets means that he can stick his nose where it really doesn't belong.
This works well on a teen drama as Brandon is portrayed as a do-gooder type who is always ready to lend a hand. But IRL, people would wonder why he didn't mind his own business a little bit more.
6 Best: Sensitive
Brandon's got a lot of smarts and this is due to his sensitive nature. He sees the good in other people and he always wants to lend a hand, whether a classmate is having trouble at home or a friend is heartbroken. Many fans will remember when Brandon dated a teen mom in the first season and although others in his life were worried that he was taking on too much, he was convinced that he could handle it.
Sensitivity is hard to come by in fancy Beverly Hills where everyone is attempting to one-up each other, so Brandon really stands out.
5 Worst: Innocent
Brandon's innocence comes out the most when he starts dating Emily Valentine (Christine Elise). She's a totally wild and unpredictable character who is truly wrong for him in every potential way, yet he's head over heels.
While it's clear to other characters that Emily has some issues, Brandon really can't tell, and that proves how innocent he is. It's endearing that he's so sweet, but he's just not worldly enough to realize that things don't always work out.
4 Best: A Hard Worker
Like Rory Gilmore and other teen drama characters who came after him, Brandon knows how to work hard. Whether he's hitting the books at school or taking on a summer job at the beach club, he doesn't shy away from getting his hands dirty or learning something new. He also enjoys his job at the Peach Pit a lot.
This is a great trait for a teenager to have, especially one who is around so many wealthy kids who might not be applying themselves in the same way.
3 Worst: Perfectionist
Brandon can be a perfectionist and this is one of the worst things about this character. He likes doing well in school and in life, and it's frustrating to watch him get angry when things aren't totally perfect.
As Brandon gets older, he realizes that life has many imperfections and that's okay, but this is a tough lesson for him.
2 Best: Social
Brandon's a social guy and he fits right into the friend group in Beverly Hills. He's always up for spending time with friends, and he loves parties and smaller gatherings, too.
While his sister Brenda can annoy people and be too moody, Brandon's good humor makes him a popular person who is always getting social invites.
1 Worst: Secretive
When Brandon falls for Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) during the college years of the series, they don't tell anyone at first. Brandon has a tendency to be secretive, which is strange since he's an open and friendly person the rest of the time. This is definitely one of his worst personality traits as it's never a good idea to be anything other than totally and completely honest.
