DCEU: 10 Things That Make No Sense About Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn has become one of the most beloved villains in all comics since her introduction in Batman: The Animated Serieswhere she appeared for the first time ever. Since then, the loyal sidekick of the Joker has evolved into her own character, spawning her own storylines where she is the lead.

Her popularity has gone to the point of granting her several movie adaptations of her character in the movies Suicide Squad and the more recent Birds Of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)Considering Margot Robbie's interpretation and her own animated TV show, it seems that her popularity is only rising. However, there are some things that are not right with Harley, and here we lay out ten of them.

10 Her Devotion To The Joker

Harley Quinn was introduced into the DC Universe as the sidekick of the Joker, for whom she has fallen in love with. But their relationship isn't exactly cute since Batman's worst villain is clearly abusive towards Harley. In many cases, he has stroked her and has verbally tormented her when things don't go as planned.

And she keeps coming back! She endures all the abusiveness in the name of love, which is clearly messed up. This has been changed in some storylines, like the recent animated show Harley Quinn where she grows apart from Joker, trying to build her own story.

9 How Did A Psychologist Become Crazy?

It is no that psychologists are impervious to the insanity they sometimes have to handle, but one would think a trained specialist in Arkham should be at least prepared for the crazy people that are locked up there.

Harley, a former psychologist, falls too hard for the Joker in such an unprofessional way, that it raises some questions about Arkham's personnel. It's hard to believe she just was meant to be with the villain.

8 Where Did She Learn To Fight?

It's later explained through many other storylines that Harley, besides being a psychologist, is also a former gymnast. That alone explains her great physical strength and agility but it doesn't account for her ability to fight superheroes proficiently, people who have super-power or at the very least are masters in martial arts.

She has even beat Batman in the comics in hand-to-hand combat, prompting Superman to state that she is as good as a fighter as the Dark Knight himself. Obviously, Bruce wasn't happy to learn that.

7 She Gets Away With Murder

Over the years, Harley has been revamped as a character and in some instances has been able to change sides, fighting for the good guys at times. Maybe it's her charisma, but she has also been able to establish brief friendly relationships with superheroes like Nightwing (with whom she took things to another level).

But let's not forget that Harley's start in the criminal world was beside none other than Joker, one of DC most heinous villains. And with him, she has orchestrated several horrendous crimes, which sometimes, when collaborating, heroes seem to forget.

6 Changes In Appearance

The original Harley Quinn look was based on that of a harlequin (duh!). In her first appearance, she wore a one-piece costume colored red and black, with a two-pompom hat. Very childish and kind of innocent which was fitting for a kid show like Batman: The Animated Series was.

However, after all the storylines and character designs were changed for the 2011 New 52 event in the comicsHarley's appearance was "upgraded" to a much more sexualized outfit, something that was unnecessary for her character. It is not like Harley can't be sexy, but she is more than that.

5 Being Considered For The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad was conceived as a special task force composed by super-villains capable of completing missions for the government, without directly involving it. Amanda Waller's baby-project looked for the most capable criminals that could be organized in a group to carry out these tasks.

So, why in the heck is Harley Quinn considered for this group? An unstable character who is more preoccupied with her antics than anything else. And she has proven to be a competent member, as to even lead the group, but that's just luck. No one in their right mind would include her in this type of operation.

4 Her Relationship With Poison Ivy

One of the most celebrated relationships in comics has been Harley and Poison Ivy getting together. This has been depicted shortly in the comics but with the success of Harley Quinn's animated show, the relationship has had a new life among fans. And it is a good thing for Harley, who has needed a good relationship for a long-time.

So, why hasn't been this a standard in the DC Universe? Only hints and nothing else. By now, Harley has gotten over her infatuation with the Joker several times. It is time for her to have a real relationship, isn't it?

3 The Vat Of Acid

Harley's skin color is changed as much as Joker's skin in the different iterations she has had over the years. First, as depicted in the animated series, her white skin was just makeup applied to her face, in an effort to look more like his beloved "Mista J". Eventually, this was changed in the new version of the story where Joker pushes Harley to a vat of acid.

How come Joker and Harley are the only ones to have survived that vat of acid? And why hasn't anyone try to recreate the event with other people, maybe trying to look for a cure for these two? This substance is one of the most ignored in the DC Universe.

2 How Crazy Is She?

Is Harley really crazy or is she pretending to be crazy for the fun of it? She has demonstrated on several occasions her great intelligence (she has a Ph.D.) and has taken sane decisions in regards to her alliances. For example, in Injustice's series of comics and videogames, she has been shown as a more normal person.

Maybe is Joker's influence that makes her like that? Who knows, but clearly she has control of her personality and how much of a psycho she can be.

1 Her Taste In Weapons

From all the weapons that Harley could use in her supervillain career, she has a taste for the most impractical ones, provided that they are thematically accordant to her character. She has used a giant mallet and bombs in the form of a jack-in-the-box.

This was toned down for her appearance in the Suicide Squad movie, where her trusty mallet was changed for a baseball bat. Think about it, a comically big mallet doesn't make sense in the real world and is not in line with an agile fighting style.
