Although Dexter is a show about serial killers and homicide, there is no lacking in romance in this series. While Dexter Morgan is the focus of the show, his sister Debra is a character that many fans love and strongly resonate with. Debra Morgan is know for being fiery, foul-mouthed, and passionate about her job with Miami Metro Homicide. She is also known for having many turbulent relationships throughout Dexter's eight seasons.
Some of the men Deb dates are great and some of them are downright homicidal. Let's take a look back at ten of Deb's love interests in Dexter. Read on to find out who was the absolute worst and who could have been something special.
10 Brian Moser (Rudy Cooper)
Almost getting murdered by your fiance and finding out that he is a serial killer probably equals worst relationship ever, right? In season 1 Deb dates Brian who is going under the alias Rudy Cooper and is also secretly The Ice Truck Killer. The worst part is that before Deb knows the truth, she really cares about Brian in a way that she doesn't seem to in many of her other relationships. Brian plays the part so seamlessly that she falls in love with and even gets engaged to him, only to get her heart broken and endure a traumatizing near-death experience.
9 Dexter Morgan
The weird story line of Deb being in love with her adoptive brother really did not work well for Dexter. These feelings are something her therapist seems to push her to reveal as an explanation for why her past taste in men has been so terrible ("Because they're not Dexter.") Can't she just have trouble picking good men without the reason being a desire for a borderline incestuous relationship? Regardless, after Deb finds out that Dexter is a serial killer, this subplot is mostly dropped. Really it should have just never existed.
8 Sean The Mechanic
There isn’t really much to say about Sean. Deb dates him in the episode "Crocodile" in season 1. They go on a double date with Dexter and Rita where the two seem to be all over each other. Deb later finds out that Sean is married and rightfully dump him. This relationship is pretty unimportant other than to set a precedent of Deb dating terrible men. Sleazebag Sean definitely wasn't worth her time.
7 Andrew Briggs
Briggs was an armed robber that Deb was supposed to bring into custody for stealing jewelry. They met in the aftermath of Deb killing Maria LaGuerta, when she decided to quit Miami Metro and start working as a private investigator. Deb begins living with Briggs to get close to him while she works her case, but ends up doing drugs and sleeping with him in her spiraling state.
Deb is in a really bad place for the short time she sees Briggs and their relationship is barely real and in no way healthy. However Deb does seem to develop some kind of feelings for Briggs and find comfort in his companionship since she tells Dexter, "I felt okay around him".
6 Jacob Elway
Elway gives Deb a job after she kills LaGuerta and quits Miami Metro. Elway remarks that Deb was a mess at the time and he offered her a good job without too many questions and let her be her own agent. Although nothing romantic ever really happens between Deb and Elway, he is definitely flirtatious and attracted to her. Regardless of her often cold and sometimes rude attitude towards him, Elway helps Deb out of a tough spot and tries to be kind to her and make her laugh. However, their professional relationship as well as their friendship ends when Deb returns to Miami Metro, and Elway doesn't take it well.
5 Frank Lundy
The fact that the guy Deb dated who was twice her age is number 5 on the list really attests to the low quality of men she has been with. Still, Special Agent Lundy treated Deb in a way that many of her other boyfriends didn't. He was respectful of her and seemed interested in her intelligence and work ethic, whereas many of her other relationships were strongly focused on appearances and sex. Considering the age difference, though, it seems unlikely that this relationship would have lasted, even if Lundy hadn't met an untimely end.
4 Sal Price
A hunky crime writer dating the lieutenant of Miami Metro Homicide could have been the ultimate power couple. Deb and Sal start dating when he begins looking for more information on Hannah McKay for a book he is writing. One nice thing about Sal is that, despite being a crime writer, he never presses Deb with uncomfortable questions or asks her about being engaged to the Ice Truck Killer. Sal gives Deb a really good opportunity to let her hair down and take a break from her lieutenant duties, even if the relationship wasn't too serious.
3 Anton Briggs
Anton and Deb definitely get off to a rocky start. When they meet Anton is a confidential informant for Joey Quinn and Deb seeks his help with her cases. He eventually refuses to help her and she arrests him for smoking pot in front of her. He then writes a song about her, calling her a "skinny mean bitch." Their relationship gets better as time goes on and after Deb saves Anton from The Skinner, the two start dating.
Anton could have ended up being a pretty healthy relationship for Deb, but in then end the two were really just too different. Deb's high-strung attitude didn't match well with Anton's laid back lifestyle. Not to mention the fact that she eventually cheated on him with Lundy.
2 Gabriel Bosque
Gabriel might have been the one that got away. Who wouldn't be interested in a super fit boxer who also writes children's books? Deb meets Gabriel at the gym in the aftermath of being kidnapped by the Ice Truck Killer. He is very kind to her and understanding of the trauma she has gone through. Overall Gabriel is just a really nice, normal guy. He is also one of the only guys Deb dates that is neither a serial killer, nor involved with crime or the police in any way. This relationship might have been great for Deb, but unfortunately she decided he wasn't the right man for her.
1 Joey Quinn
Through all the ups and downs of Dexter, Quinn was always there with Deb for better or for worse. The two start off as partners, date for a while, break up, become friends, and eventually find their way back to each other. No, Quinn is not some perfect knight in shining armor, but that's not really what Deb wants anyway. He is tough enough to handle Deb's personality, yet still very sweet and caring. Quinn also understands what it's like be a police officer and is able to help Deb get through her worst moments. Deb and Quinn would have been endgame, until the devastating finale took that away.
