You: Beck’s 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Traits | ScreenRant

In the first season of YouGuinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) is the object of Joe Goldberg's (Penn Badgley) affection — or obsession. They meet cute at the bookstore where Joe works and he loves that she's a student who wants to be a published author. Beck would never have predicted how their romance would unfold or the fact that falling for Joe would mean losing her life.

Beck is the perfect target for Joe as she's sweet, unsuspecting, and desperate to be loved. But even though he's clearly the person at fault in their love story, Beck isn't exactly perfect. This character definitely has some good qualities but she has a lot to answer for as well.

10 Best: Wordsmith

Beck is a super talented writer and she even manages to land a book deal, although she doesn't live long enough to see her book published.

This is one of the best things about her. Her writing talent helps her keep her eye on the prize of staying in school and trying to be successful, even when times are tough.

9 Worst: Insecure

Beck falls in love with Joe because she's so insecure, and this is one of her worst personality traits. She can't convince herself that she's worthy of being in a healthy relationship, and every move she makes is because of how badly she feels about herself.

Beck's childhood and home life are less than perfect, and this neglect means that she tries to find love and compassion with the wrong men.

8 Best: Ambitious

Beck is definitely a character with some ambition. If she wasn't dreaming of success, she wouldn't be in school, and she wouldn't try her best to network and meet people in the NYC literary scene.

Beck's desire to do well in life is one of her most positive qualities, and it helps cancel out some of the worst things about her. She just wants to write for a living and meet her soulmate.

7 Worst: Whiny

One of Beck's worst traits is her tendency to whine a lot. She always feels sorry for herself, and this seems to be a major reason why she's so taken in by Joe, a man who she barely knows.

There are a lot of confusing things about You but it makes sense that Beck would be someone who complains all the time. After all, she's not where she wants to be in life, and she's struggling to keep her head above water when it comes to balancing school and her love life.

6 Best: Kind

Beck is a kind person, especially in contrast to Joe. She's friendly when she meets people and she tries to be a good friend. Sure, she has the attitude that bad things always happen to her and she always wants others to pity her, but she's still a nice girl.

Of course, Beck's sweet nature is what ultimately allows Joe to trap her and kill her in the glass cage in the basement of the bookstore.

5 Worst: Easily Influenced

Shay Mitchell's You character Peach Salinger is one of the most compelling. She and Beck are best friends, although it becomes clear that Peach is totally in love with Beck.

Beck tends to be influenced by other people, and Peach has the biggest hold on her. This isn't a great trait to have, as it doesn't allow her to think for herself or see right through someone who is manipulating her. In the first few episodes of season one, when Peach calls or has a crisis, Beck runs right over.

4 Best: Intuitive

When Beck starts to realize that there's more to Joe than she originally thought, she looks up everything that she can about Candace (Ambyr Childers). She sees through Joe's facade a little bit, although not enough to ultimately save herself.

Beck is a fairly intuitive person and this is one of her best traits. Even though things don't end well for her, she still goes with her gut and looks into a sketchy and dangerous situation. Not everyone would have the nerve to research Candace.

3 Worst: Unfaithful

Beck isn't able to stay faithful to Joe, as she has an affair with her therapist, Dr. Nicky (John Stamos).

The most obvious reason why she cheats on Joe? She can't really sustain a healthy relationship as she has never had one before. It scares her that she likes Joe so much, and she self-sabotages.

2 Best: Dreamer

Beck is definitely a dreamer, and this is one of the most interesting things about her. She seems like someone who has grown up with her nose in a book because escaping into fictional worlds is more fun than trying to fix her life.

This quality of Beck's must be one reason why Joe likes her, because even though he treats her horribly and, of course, actually murders her, he does think that she has a lot of good things going for her.

1 Worst: Innocent

Creepy Joe preys on Beck's innocence and doe-eyed quality. He lures her into the glass cage and he knows that this is it for her.

If Beck had seen through Joe earlier, she might still be alive. A less naive person would definitely think that he was weird from the moment that they met him and not even get involved with him at all, but unfortunately for Beck, she thought that he was just as sweet and innocent as she is.
