5 Walking Dead 'Governor' Era Characters Fans Still Miss (& 5 Who Deserved Their Fate)

From season one to season three of The Walking Dead, the main cast and crew went through a lot of change; this includes people lost, scenery change and new enemies to look out for. So far, there's been a couple villains that have shaken up the camp, but by far the worst has been The Governor. He's a loose cannon with tricks and deceit up his sleeve and for a while, the only person to see through this facade was Michonne.

While there has been a lot of loss and at times, triumphant moments in this era, there are characters that fans think should've deserved a better chance and miss and there's a few characters that deserved what was served to them. They might've not all died, but they certainly got what was coming to them.

10 Fans Still Miss: Hershel Greene

Hershel Greene became a pivotal character in Season 2. With his medical experience, religious background and wise words, he quite became the sound mind of the group. He believed in Rick and his skill to lead and took in Glenn as one of his own.

Fans got a dose of reality in season 3 when he lost his leg after he was bitten and it became a stressful moment in the series. After he lived through that, fans thought they were in the clear. Nothing could've prepared the viewers for his untimely exit when The Governor took his life.

9 Deserved Their Fate: The Governor

The Governor seemed too good to be true from day one and had redemption on his mind the entire time. He kept his poor daughter alive after she turned, took whatever he thought was his and became more and more unhinged as the season went on.

There were some good parts about him and when he was on his own, it seemed like it helped his character. Eventually, his true colors showed up once again and he only had revenge on his mind for Michonne and Rick's camp for taking what was his. He ended Hershel's life and that alone is enough to make him one of the worst villains in the entire series.

8 Fans Still Miss: T-Dog

After battling a nasty case of blood poisoning in season one, it seemed as if the creators gave T-Dog an extra change at life. He became a main member of Rick's group and did his part in keeping the camp safe. Unfortunately, when Walkers got into the prison compound, he risked his life and was unfortunately bitten in the shoulder.

His final heroic moment was when he sacrificed himself for Carol, so she could get away unscathed.

7 Deserved Their Fate: Caesar Martinez

Caesar wasn't at bad as The Governor, but he had a hand in all of his destruction around him. He did The Governor's bidding, claimed lives and didn't think twice about doing harm to others. Once he bailed on The Governor, he made his own camp and starter over, but that doesn't take away from his past.

He eventually gets killed off by The Governor, as he wanted revenge since Caesar left him to die. The Governor had what was coming to him, but leaving him with nothing was pretty harsh.

6 Fans Still Miss: Andrea

From season one to season three, Andrea redeemed herself as the whiney female character in the group, to being at odds when two groups she both had feelings for and wanted to come to a middle group of peace.

It was admirable to see Andrea grow and become a strong woman and member of both groups. Unfortunately she didn't see through The Governor's facade and fell victim to him. She eventually died when she was locked in a room with Milton, who then turned into a Walker and bit her.

5 Deserved Their Fate: Carol

This one might surprise fans, but it's all for good reasons. Fans of the show will know that Carol remains as a main character for many more seasons, but when she makes a bold move for the camp, she's cast out by Rick.

When people started getting sick, she makes a lone decision to kill them and burn their bodies. She doesn't consult with anyone about this and eventually fesses up to Rick. She's told not to come back to the camp and really, it seemed like the best decision.

4 Fans Still Miss: Axel

At first, Axel seemed like a supporting cast character at best, that wouldn't make it long because of his obliviousness and weakness. On the other hand, from day one, he wanted to keep the peace between his fellow inmates and Rick's group.

He had a soft heart and when he eventually earned his keep in the group and became close friends with Carol. Unfortunately, viewers never saw it coming when he was shot point blank by The Governor.

3 Deserved Their Fate: Tomas

Tomas doesn't stay on The Walking Dead for long, but he made his mark that fans might've forgotten by now. As one of the several inmates locked in the prison, he's been living off the cafeteria food and waiting to be rescued; not knowing the outside world isn't the same. When Rick and his crew run into him and the others, the tension is immediately high.

After Rick and his camp help them clear a cell block, they're met with a group of Walkers. Tomas purposely pushes Rick into one and Rick notices. He knows he has no other choice but to get rid of Tomas.

2 Fans Still Miss: Merle Dixon

This one might get mixed reviews, as for the most part, Merle only left bloodshed in his path and was The Governor's right hand man. The one good thing about Merle is he always had a soft spot for his brother Daryl and wouldn't go against him when The Governor tried to pit them against each other.

Eventually, he went back to the prison with Daryl and tried to become a member. It didn't quite work out and his final exit plan was to die with honor and mess up The Governor's plan. It seemed as if Merle might've been turning a new leaf, before he was killed. It was a sad moment when Daryl had to end his life.

1 Deserved Their Fate: Milton Mamet

Milton Mamet was known for his total lack of a backbone and blind eye to how The Governor really runs Woodbury. He knows what The Governor is up to, but does nothing to stop it. He's oblivious to how dangerous the Walkers are and has never had to fend for himself.

He also tells The Governor about Andrea's plan to run away, resulting in Andrea's untimely death. He really had no contribution and went along with the crowd. He fell victim to The Governor and turned into a Walker.
