Amy Adams' Woman in the Window Movie May Go to Netflix

Netflix is in negotiations to acquire Amy Adams' The Woman in the Window movie from Disney. The film is an adaptation of author A.J. Finn's best-selling thriller novel. Originally slated for an October 2019 release, The Woman in the Window was delayed until May of this year after negative early test screening responses before completely taking it off the release schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Deadline, Netflix is negotiating a deal that will acquire The Woman in the Window from Disney-owned 20th Century Fox. The thriller is the last of the book-to-movie projects from Elizabeth Gabler's Fox 2000 production company, which was shuttered after Disney acquired Fox. Though the film is finished, a release date has not yet been announced as the deal is still in negotiations.

Netflix's deal with Disney is not the first time the streaming service has purchased studio films recently. Netflix has inherited a variety of studio films, including Paramount movies Spongebob: Sponge on the Run, Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae's romantic comedy Lovebirds and Aaron Sorkin's Trial of the Chicago 7.

Directed by Joe Wright, The Woman in the Window stars Amy Adams as Anna Fox, an agoraphobic child psychologist who spends her days in her New York home watching old film noirs and spying on her neighbors through her windows. When she thinks she witnesses her neighbor's murder one night, she becomes paranoid and unsure of what to do and who to trust. The film also stars Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Anthony Mackie, Brian Tyree Henry, and Wyatt Russell.
