Constantine Actor Wants Legends of Tomorrow To Show King Shark Pairing

Legends of Tomorrow actor Matt Ryan wants the show to explore his character Constantine's relationship with King Shark. Constantine has become a key part of the Arrowverse since joining the series in a recurring role during season 3. Since then, he's become a part of Legends of Tomorrow's regular cast. However, it wasn't Ryan's first time playing the warlock. He started out on NBC's Constantine in 2014, though it only lasted a season. Ryan also reprised his role in an episode of Arrow before joining Legends of Tomorrow.

Constantine and King Shark haven't yet interacted within the Arrowverse. However, the humanoid shark has appeared in multiple episodes of The Flash. There, he's portrayed as an Earth-2 marine biologist hit by the particle accelerator. He's fallen under villains' control before. However, he's ultimately a hero, even sacrificing his return to human form in order to stop Gorilla Grodd. Most recently, he was living in an aquarium, with the Earth-1 version of his wife, Tanya, keeping him company.

Now, Ryan is hoping King Shark will make the move to Legends of Tomorrow. Appearing on the show's panel at the Wizard World virtual convention, the cast was asked about other characters in the DC Universe they'd like to see on the series. Ryan quickly responded with his answer:

King Shark. Only because, it might not connect, but in the Justice League Dark: Apokolips War animation, John Constantine turns around and says he had a relationship with King Shark, and I just think that's so funny.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is one of DC's adult animated movies and released earlier this year. Constantine plays a major role, with Ryan providing his voice. In one of the film's funnier moments, Constantine reveals he dated King Shark, though they've since broken up. Considering the origin of King Shark established on The Flash, it would be hard for Legends of Tomorrow to portray a romantic relationship between the two. However, Legends could use a different Earth's King Shark, allowing for a workaround. Since Legends of Tomorrow has an inherently silly tone, it's easy to imagine a relationship between Constantine and King Shark playing a role.

In fact, even though some of DC's wilder villains like King Shark and Gorilla Grodd have worked well on The Flash, they're arguably better suited to Legends of Tomorrow. The series famously introduced Beebo, a cuddly child's toy that became a God of War and eventually a giant fighter. The large version of Beebo is especially akin to King Shark and proves the character would fit right in with the Legends. Plus, since Legends of Tomorrow won't return until next year, there's plenty of time to campaign for a King Shark appearance.
