Dwayne Johnson Challenges The Justice League As Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson challenges all the other heroes in the DCEU as he debuts in the franchise via Black Adam. The former WWE superstar has long been attached to play the anti-hero with the project getting stuck in production limbo. Now, however, it is finally pushing through, and Johnson is sending a clear message to the Justice League.

Originally supposed to debut in David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, Warner Bros. changed plans and decided that it's for the best to debut Black Adam in his own standalone film. Last year, Jaume Collet-Serra was tapped to direct the film after previously working with Johnson in Disney's Jungle Cruise, while Adam Sztykiel was hired to write the script. Aside from the titular character, Black Adam will also see the arrival of the Justice Society of America with Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) rounding up the team.

With or without his own team, however, Johnson is confident about where Black Adam falls in terms of the power hierarchy in the DCEU. During the special Black Adam panel during DC FanDome, he revealed additional pertinent information about the much-anticipated film, further driving the hype for the movie. But before signing off, the actor sends a cheeky challenge to all heroes who already exist in the universe, primarily the Justice League.

"Flash, Shazam, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman, let's let them know something: things will never the same because the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change."

For years, Johnson has been teasing an encounter between Black Adam and Superman, harping on the idea that both characters have the same superpowers, so it will be interesting to see an intense fight between the pair. Now, he elevates it and sends the challenge to the rest of the Justice League and Shazam. Of course, this is all part of Johnson's showmanship, as he ended the message with a wink, but that doesn't mean that a fight between the Justice Society of America and Justice League won't be in the cards for the DCEU. If anything, it's an interesting notion — and something that a lot of fans will be interested in seeing. The potential encounter between the two DCEU superhero teams sounds like an event film that Warner Bros. can build towards.

Johnson's enthusiasm for the Black Adam movie is evident during the film's panel at DC FanDome, and it's a delight to see for many fans who have been waiting for this project for years. While the character is tipped to significantly change the dynamic inside the DCEU, Johnson officially joining the franchise could also mean changes outside of the narrative itself. Given his charisma and star power, he can easily be the universe's poster actor — a unique situation considering that his character is technically an anti-hero.
