By the season finale of Gilmore Girls, it's fair to say that both Rory (Alexis Bledel) and her mom Lorelai (Lauren Graham) have done a lot of growing up. But viewers notice a lot of character growth for the main characters on this popular TV drama.

Fans love the town of Stars Hollow and there are so many fun things that happen in this small town. Everyone knows how to celebrate holidays and the town throws epic festivals. But Rory and Lorelai have many ups and downs in their lives, and there are a lot of big things that happen to them over seven seasons, for better or for worse. It's interesting to take a look at these big moments and what ratings these episodes got on IMDb.

11 Raincoats and Recipes (9.3)

It's always been a dream of Lorelai and Sookie's (Melissa McCarthy) to open their own inn, and in the fourth season finale, they're finally making it happen.

All their friends and family come to stay for the weekend so they can work out all of the kinks before officially opening, and this episode got a really high rating of 9.3 out of 10 on IMdb.

10 Bon Voyage (9.2)

The seventh season of Gilmore Girls wasn't perfect and, in fact, many fans don't even want to remember that

However, the series finale still has a big milestone moment, and that's Rory leaving Stars Hollow to start working as a political journalist. Everyone says goodbye to their favorite kid and there really isn't a dry eye anywhere in Stars Hollow. This episode got a 9.2 rating out of 10 on IMDb, which is definitely very high

9 Those Are Strings, Pinocchio (9.0)

In the third season finale, Rory graduates from Chilton. Fans aren't on board with everything that Rory does, but this is definitely one of her biggest milestones.

Of course, there was never any doubt that Rory, who is so intelligent, wouldn't be able to leave high school behind and embark on college. But now it's official and she can go off to Yale, knowing that she's ready to take on her future. The best part of this episode, which got a 9.0 rating on IMDb, is when Luke cries while Rory makes her valedictorian speech about how much she loves Lorelai.

8 Rory's Dance (8.8)

School dances are a huge deal, and they're often a major plot point on teen dramas or in films featuring young adult characters. There's a lot, from the dress to what hairstyle to choose to, of course, who to go with. And that's just everything that happens before the event itself starts.

The first season episode "Rory's Dance" features two milestones: Rory going to her first dance with Dean (Jared Padalecki), her first boyfriend, and the two of them accidentally falling asleep. This freaks Lorelai and her mom Emily (Kelly Bishop) out and suddenly everyone is fighting, scared that Rory will be a teen mom like Lorelai.

7 The Lorelais' First Day at Yale (8.7)

Could anything be more exciting than Rory starting Yale?

While Rory isn't always a star reporter, her future still seems great when she starts attending college. The episode did pretty well in terms of its IMDb rating and got 8.7 out of 10.

6 A House Is Not A Home (8.7)

The episode "A House Is Not A Home" is a major one as two huge things happen: Rory steals a yacht and Lorelai asks Luke to marry her.

The former is totally shocking and even to this day, Gilmore Girls fans aren't quite sure that this really happened. The latter is also surprising as it took Lorelai and Luke so long to admit that they loved each other. And fans might have expected Luke to take this step (even though, of course, he's more on the shy side).

5 The Prodigal Daughter Returns (8.6)

Lorelai and Rory have a complex bond and it's wild when they don't talk to each other for quite a long time. No Gilmore Girls fan would have imagined that this would be their reality.

In the episode "The Prodigal Daughter Returns," they finally start speaking again and things seem right again in Stars Hollow. This episode got an 8.6 out of 10 rating.

4 Written In The Stars (8.6)

This fifth season episode is the one that fans had been waiting for: Lorelai and Luke finally have their first date. The date is both sweet and a little awkward as they get used to their new role in each other's lives.

The episode title "Written In The Stars" is super romantic, and Luke makes fans swoon by telling Lorelai that he wants to commit to her. This episode was also highly rated with an 8.6 rating out of 10.

3 Forgiveness And Stuff (8.4)

While Gilmore Girls tells the funny and quirky story of a young mother and her smart daughter, the show also examines father/daughter relationships.

In this episode, Richard has his first heart attack, and it's hard for Lorelai to come to terms with the fact that her smart father might not make it. To make matters worse, Lorelai wasn't allowed to go to her parents' famous Christmas party, which is her favorite evening of the whole year. This episode got 8.4.

2 The Road Trip To Harvard (8.3)

With a rating of 8.3 on IMDb.com, "The Road Trip To Harvard" sees Lorelai going through a hard time after calling off her wedding to Max (Scott Cohen). It's definitely a huge deal, as she thought that she would be married and raising Rory with him, and now she's single all over again.

Fans love this episode as it's fun to see the mom/daughter duo stay in a hilarious, quirky bed and breakfast, and they also visit Harvard.

1 Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers (8.3)

This season one episode features a milestone for both Dean and Rory. He says that he loves her, and she isn't able to return those words, so he says that their relationship is over. Fans are divided on Rory and Dean but many feel that he's the perfect guy for her.

This episode is full of emotion and drama, so it makes sense that it got an 8.3 rating out of 10.
