Full House: 10 Things About Stephanie That Make No Sense

Stephanie Tanner is a sweet kid with an engaging Full House life span. She goes through the death of her mother before she even goes to kindergarten. As a middle child, she looks up to DJ and tries to be a role model for Michelle.

Throughout the show's eight seasons, Stephanie grows a lot and becomes a strong and confident young woman. Although she is a great character, there are still a few things about Stephanie Tanner that don't make sense, even for serious Full House fans.

10 Background

Stephanie has been through so much by the start of Full House. As a five-year-old little girl with no mother, she already carries a lot of emotional weight. Stephanie deals with this occasionally throughout the show and even on Fuller House as she struggles to remember her mom.

It is good for Stephanie to express how she feels, and it would have made sense for her to open up about her grief even more.

9 Hobbies

Stephanie does the best job out of all the Tanners to find and maintain hobbies. She hangs on to her stuffed animal, Mr. Bear, she explores different levels of dance classes, and she is a young Honeybee (basically Girl Scout) like DJ.

As Stephanie grows up, it gets harder to see what her favorite hobbies are. Dance falls by the wayside in the later seasons, and school and boys come into sharper focus.

8 Catch Phrases

Just like her hobbies, Stephanie's catchphrases are some of the best ones on the show. There is no telling how many times fans have reused "How rude" or "Well, pin a rose on your nose."

These catchphrases make sense and work well with the show's comedic timing. The weird thing is that Stephanie seems to say them from her teen years into adulthood. When Fuller House began, Stephanie was still saying some of the same things she said as a ten-year-old.

7 Choices

Stephanie is a kid who is still learning. She is as capable of making mistakes as any other human. But sometimes, her choices just don't add up.

It's one thing to play around in a grown-up's car and not know about the gear shift, but it's another thing to give into peer pressure at school, at a party, or with strangers. DJ spent junior high as more of a "just say no" girl, but Stephanie does make some poor choices at that age.

6 Fears

It is completely typical for kids and tweens to have fears as they grow. Stephanie gets scared of the dark, scared of school, and scared of an earthquake, to name a few.

The problem is, she is just too scared. This could easily be attributed to losing her mother at such a young age and fearing for the worst. She would have benefited from even more reassuring talks from trustworthy adults.

5 Friendships

All the Full House kids change friends a few times, but Stephanie is at a bit of a disadvantage. DJ has a built-in best friend in Kimmy Gibbler. Stephanie has to make friends in elementary school, and none of them seem to last too long.

She finds it challenging to form a supportive friend group in junior high, but thankfully, Gia becomes a strong (if sometimes questionable) friend.

4 Hair

Most of the hair-related conversations with Full House are centered around Uncle Jesse.

That's alright, but Stephanie has some stylish hair, too. Even though she is always pretty, it doesn't make sense that Stephanie spends the show's first three seasons as a child with curly hair and then appears with it straight from seasons four through eight.

3 Middle Child Syndrome

Fans of the show often cite Stephanie's middle child syndrome. DJ tells her what to do, but she wants to be someone DJ approves of. Michelle annoys her, but she wants to be someone Michelle looks up to.

Stephanie is routinely caught in the middle. It makes sense in some respects, but it takes a bit too long for her to break out of the middle mold a little.

2 Music

Stephanie loves music throughout the series, bursting out into song occasionally on her own or with the family. When she returns for Fuller House, Stephanie has made a career as a deejay, cheesily dubbing herself DJ Tanner.

It doesn't make sense for Stephanie to take a casual inclination for music and become a sensation overnight in the music world. The party girl image for Stephanie feels too easy and too much like Jesse.

1 Dance Career

Stephanie practices ballet so much in the show's early days and continues as a more versatile dancer in the middle seasons. Even though she isn't seen in a tutu by the show's end, fans might wonder if Stephanie ever considered a career in dance. Perhaps it was a goal that just seemed too far out of reach.

She tried to amp up her commitment in the fifth season, but it proved to be too much even then. Whether she dances or not, fans love Stephanie Tanner.
