Marvel's Most Dangerous X-Men Are Turning On Each Other

Marvel's most dangerous X-Men are turning on each other. The entire mutant race has settled on the living island of Krakoa, and that includes some of the most dangerous mutants of all. So long as you have an X-gene, you're welcome on Krakoa, even if you're a Nazi or a mutant vampire. Naturally, this policy has caused some problems, with Sebastian Shaw killing Kitty Pryde and Apocalypse conquering the mystical realm of Otherworld in the name of mutantkind.

The X-Men are belatedly beginning to understand the problem, and they've recently set up their own version of "Suicide Squad" under Mr. Sinister. The Hellions are essentially a group of misfits, the mutants who just don't play well with others. They include Nanny and Orphan-Maker, who have probably the most dysfunctional relationship on Krakoa (which is saying something), the sociopath Empath who delights in manipulating others, a former mass-murderer named Greycrow who used to work for Sinister, and a feral animalistic mutant called Wildchild. Havok is their most unlikely member, but he's suffering from some sort of psychotic episode himself at the moment, and the trained assassin Psylocke is serving as their leader. Naturally, the first mission hasn't gone well, with Havok betraying the Hellions in order to side with his old flame Madelyne Pryor.

Marvel Comics has released an official preview for Hellions #3, confirming that things are just going to get worse. Psylocke was injured during the battle with Madelyne Pryor and her Marauders clones, and Wildchild has taken this as the perfect opportunity to challenge her for the position of the Alpha Dog. The assassin and the feral mutant look to be in an all-out fight to the death, because Wildchild's first strike has left Psylocke badly bloodied. Here's the full solicitation:

Wildchild is essentially a mini-Sabretooth, so - if handled well - this could be as thrilling an issue as Uncanny X-Men #328, where Psylocke was almost killed by Sabretooth. This isn't the Psylocke readers are more familiar with, however; this is the ninja assassin Kwannon, who recently regained her old body and is trying to make a home on Krakoa. Where Betsy Braddock would probably settle for just knocking Wildchild out, Kwannon is a killer at heart, meaning both sides are playing for keeps.

Incredibly, this duel to the death is actually the B-plot, because the issue is ostensibly about the growing threat of Madelyne Pryor. As the solicit notes, "Talk about a return that could raise some havoc!" It's going to be thrilling to see whether Havok remains on-side with Madelyne, or whether his true persona breaks to the surface. Answers will be revealed in Hellions #3, on sale August 26.
