Seinfeld: Every Main Character, Ranked By Likability | ScreenRant

Of all the sitcoms, Seinfeld is famous for two things: being a show about nothing and featuring neurotic characters. But even though Jerry and his pals are notoriously tough to like, as they behave however they want and can be very self-involved, viewers feel very fondly toward many of them.

Fans have many favorite episodes and the characters feel very real. They act like everyone else does, getting frustrated when things don't go their way, a friend acts weird, or they can't find their car in a parking lot (to name one beloved storyline). Of course, the fans don't love everyone on this NYC-set sitcom. There are some favorite characters and others who aren't as popular.

10 Susan Ross

Susan's death on Seinfeld felt as random as the character herself. Susan Ross never meshes with her fiancé George Costanza or with the rest of the characters, and she doesn't seem to have a reason to be on the sitcom at all.

Susan is probably the most loathed character on the show and for many people, she is unnecessary.

9 Helen Seinfeld

Helen Seinfeld is Jerry's mother, and while she's not as annoying as George's parents, she has a few traits that make her unlikable.

Unlike her husband, she doesn't have many memorable scenes, and she and Jerry don't seem to get along all that well or have any interesting conversations.

8 Newman

Newman is hilarious and calculating, but when compared to the other main characters on Seinfeld, he's tough to like.

Because Newman hates Jerry, viewers immediately have an issue with him as Jerry is one of the most popular people on the show. Newman spends a lot of time whining about his life and coming up with desperate plans to make himself happy, and it's not that charming.

7 Estelle Costanza

It's also hard to like George's mom, Estelle. She doesn't seem to have an indoor voice and while she has some hilarious scenes, after awhile, her loud voice becomes grating and she seems really hysterical.

Instead of working herself into a tizzy all the time, Estelle should be more appreciative of the things that she has in her life, such as a nice house and a long-term marriage. With her, everything is an emergency.

6 Kramer

Cosmo Kramer can be annoying as he concocts his many get-rich-quick schemes. He's always barging into Jerry's apartment, and while that's supposed to be funny, IRL it would be incredibly frustrating.

Kramer has some good qualities and he tries to be there for Jerry. But ultimately, he never really grew up, and it's tough to like someone who doesn't want to work hard and expects things to be handed to him.

5 Morty Seinfeld

Jerry's dad Morty is definitely more likable than his wife. He might be in a bad mood most of the time and he might always complain, but he has some fascinating insights about life.

Whether lamenting about the waiting room at the doctors' office or fighting with the neighbors in his retirement complex in Florida, Morty is always a funny presence on the show.

4 Frank Costanza

This Seinfeld character is easy to like and part of that is the brilliant way actor Jerry Stiller plays him.

Frank is often outraged, but it's hilarious, and he does his best to steer his son George in the right direction. He tries to get George jobs and give him life advice, and no one can fault Frank for that; he's just trying to be a good father.

3 George Costanza

George Costanza (Jason Alexander) is an interesting case. On paper, he shouldn't be a great character. He's mostly unemployed, doesn't seem motivated, and is not exactly a catch.

But on the show, George is one of the best characters and definitely one of the most beloved. For whatever reason, he just works, and everything that is wrong with him is so charming. Viewers root for him and want him to find someone special to settle down with.

2 Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld's apartment is one of the main sets of the show and a lot of funny things take place there, from Kramer dropping in to Jerry pretending that he doesn't want to watch Melrose Place.

As the protagonist, Jerry has to be likable, and thankfully, he is. He's smug at times, sure, but for the most part, Jerry is funny, knows when to go with the flow and when to care about something. He certainly always gets himself into interesting situations.

1 Elaine Benes

Some of Elaine's actions seem awkward now, but for many Seinfeld fans, Elaine Benes is their absolute favorite character.

Elaine is an incredibly original character who can't dance, gets upset about tiny things, and is quick to laugh (even at herself). The show would never be as successful without her because she's such a good contrast to the other characters. While it's called Seinfeld and focuses on Jerry, it's definitely true that many storylines are all about Elaine, and these are some of the best ones, whether she's desperate for someone to give her toilet paper or upset about a barking dog in the middle of the night.
