Shark Tank Moguls Taking the Risk To Film Under Covid-19 Restrictions

The long-running series Shark Tank is coming back for its 12th season, despite industry wide COVID-19 restrictions. The filming of the new season is reported to have commenced on July 27, with tight safety measures set in place.

The show, which features mainstay business moguls Mark Cuban, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary, Lori Greiner, Daymond John and Barbara Corcoran, is coming off of winning back-to-back reality TV Emmy awards. Shark Tank gives fans an inside look into the investment decisions of top industry professionals when analyzing start-up companies. The show also provides new businesses the opportunity to gain the capital and connections that they need to take them to the next level, via partnering with one of the 'Sharks' , who act as venture capitalists and angel investors. Naturally, with COVID-19 providing a unique business environment, the show has decided to proceed with filming the new season despite health and safety concerns.

According to Deadline, Shark Tank, rather than filming in its usual location at the Sony lot in Culver City, California, is instead commencing production at an undisclosed location in Las Vegas. The Sin City location is apparently under a "quarantine bubble," keeping all stars and staff in one single facility as the show continues to be filmed. Fortunately, most of the production crew have been able to make the transition and are currently making decent headway despite limited time and resources. To put things in perspective, filming for all 22 episodes of Shark Tank is normally conducted during 2 week 'pods', first in June and next in September. With this aggregated schedule of production being not so dissimilar from the norm, the transition to staying in a lockdown procedure for the new season has not been so difficult.

However, Shark Tank has not been alone in its endeavors. Other shows have also made similar maneuvers to Sin City to commence with production deadlines. Love Island from CBS is also shooting its second season in Las Vegas and hopes to air sometime later this year. However, it should be emphasized that these measures still come with major risks. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to proliferate throughout the United States, with regions like Florida and Texas severely affected. Additionally, the age demographics of most of the 'Sharks' put them at a heightened risk of mortality should they contract the virus.

For the time being, the production's stringent lockdown measures have proven to be effective. It's worth noting that Nevada and Las Vegas have had a relatively milder impact from the virus as opposed to the normal filming location in Los Angeles. Still, the state of Nevada has reported a total of 55,481 cases alongside 949 deaths. More concerning, Nevada has recently tied the daily record for deaths recorded at 29 people. Hopefully, the safety measures put in place will keep each of the Sharks safe from any Covid-19 complications. God only knows what fans will do without another season of Shark Tank on the horizon!
