Stranger Things: 10 Hidden Details About Hopper's Teaser Trailer Fans Never Noticed

Fans of the popular Netflix show Stranger Things are always creating theories about the upcoming seasons. When a teaser trailer was released in February for the show’s fourth season, it didn’t take long for viewers to come up with new fan theories about what they can expect to happen in Hawkins, Indiana, or outside the beloved fictional town.

The trailer might have only been 90 seconds long, but it was enough to provide plenty of clues and details for eager fans. Even though fans might come up with their theories, the show’s fourth season is going to be intense and deliver unexpected surprises. Until the next season premieres (whenever that will be), here are 10 details you might have missed in the trailer.

10 Set In Chernobyl

A majority of the third season of Stranger Things deals with the impending threat of Russia. So, it’s not that surprising that season four will also interact with Russians. However, fans think the season will take place in spring 1986, when the Chernobyl disaster happened on April 26, 1986, near Ukrainian SSR.

This storyline makes sense. The first season took place in winter 1983, the second season took place in autumn 1984, and the third season focused on summer 1985. If Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is in Russia in the late winter and early spring 1986, he might face a nuclear disaster.

9 Hopper Is A Prisoner

In the trailer, it appears Hopper is a prisoner of a Soviet Labor Camp. He’s surrounded by several other men who must perform hard labor… or else. Guards and dogs are monitoring the men’s work. If they make a mistake or stop working, you won’t want to know what happens to them.

Fans have questions about how Hopper ended up at this labor camp in the first place, but these questions will most likely be answered in the new season.

8 Building A Railway Track To The Upside Down

While the men are performing harsh labor, it looks like they’re building a railway track. Everything in Stranger Things is significant. With this in mind, fans are convinced the railway track is going to lead to an entrance to the show’s Upside Down.

The Russians could be building their own portal to the Upside Down—an alternate reality where Demogorgons and other vicious monsters live. Why are the Russians obsessed with the Upside Down? That’s still something fans are trying to figure out.

7 There’s Actually Two Railway Tracks

Fans know that Hopper is helping build a railway track, and it might lead to a portal to the Upside Down. However, there’s a hidden detail in the trailer that might reveal an even bigger plan by the Russians.

There’s another railway track beside the one the prisoners are constructing. This second track is already built, but no one is standing beside it. Fans think the track Hopper’s building is the one leading to the new Upside Down portal the Russians are building, while the complete track will lead people to the portal already existing in Hawkins, Indiana. Wouldn’t that be something?

6 A Familiar Face

Fans love to dissect anything to do with Stranger Things. After watching the trailer over and over again, some fans noticed a familiar face. One of the guards was played by actor Tom Wlaschiha, who is best known for his role as Jaqen H’ghar (also known as Faceless Man) on Game of Thrones.

Because Game of Thrones has ended, it seems Wlaschiha has moved on to his next project. It’s hard to tell if he will have a big role in the next season of Stranger Things, but fans are excited.

5 The American Isn’t Hopper

At the end of the third season, viewers were led to believe that Hopper had died. Then, Russian officers were talking about an “American” who was locked inside a prison cell. Immediately, fans thought “The American” had to be Hopper. He didn’t die, but he was trapped by the Russians.

Obviously, the trailer reveals that Hopper is, in fact, alive. In addition, he isn’t locked inside a prison cell. He’s working outdoors. So, who could “The American” actually be?

4 Brenner Is The American

Because Hopper couldn’t be “The American,” fans searched for another possible character who could be trapped in the Soviet Labor Camp. They have eventually theorized that “The American” could be Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine).

If you remember the first season of Stranger Things, you’ll know that Brenner was the doctor at the Hawkins Lab who tested on Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). He manipulated her into thinking he was her “Papa.” Viewers were led to believe that Brenner died in the first season, but that might not be true. If he is “The American,” he’s alive and he’s near Hopper. That could only mean one thing: trouble.

3 Demogorgons Are Here

At the end of the teaser trailer, you can hear a noise that many people have said sounds like a Geiger counter or a bird. However, the die-hard Stranger Things fans picked up on the sound and are convinced it’s the distinct sound of a Demogorgon screeching.

No one wants to experience Demogorgans, the open-faced vicious monster Eleven and her friends dealt with in the show’s first season. If this is a Demogorgon, you can expect it to destroy everything in its sight in Russia.

2 Hopper Might Have Had His Memory Erased

When the trailer revealed that Hopper is alive, he looked distressed. He was working on the railway track and he took off his hat. He gazed at his surroundings, but his eyes looked dead. His head has been shaved and he doesn’t look well.

While this could just be from the labor camp, fans are worried that Hopper has had a lobotomy. The Russians forced the operation on Hopper to erase his memory. If he can’t remember everything back home in Hawkins, he can be on their side of the war.

1 He’ll Kill Eleven?

In the trailer, Hopper looks like a threatening menace. He’s a tough character in general, but he especially looks angry now. If his memory has been swiped and he can’t remember anything pleasant about Hawkins, fans think the Russians might use Hopper to kill Eleven.

Hopper is Eleven’s adopted father, but he might not remember this anymore. If he’s told to kill Eleven, he might follow the command. No one would want this to happen, and perhaps Eleven will regain her powers to save Hopper. Fans will have to wait until the next season to find out what happens.
