Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone will receive an today update with tons of new content for Season 5 Reloaded. Not only that, but the update will mark the start of a global Call of Duty event called Games of Summer.
Call of Duty Season 5 kicked off in both Modern Warfare and Warzone earlier this month, introducing tons of additions. The base game was treated to a host of new multiplayer maps as well as several game modes. Warzone fans received a few exciting novelties, most notably the anticipated opening of Verdansk’s stadium. Similar to several other battle royale games on the market, Warzone was also updated with an interactive train patrolling the map and hiding some precious loot onboard. Last but not least, a completely new game mode called Mini Royale appeared in the free-to-play title, allowing players to test their might on a smaller scale.
According to Activision, another weighty batch of new content is arriving today, at 11 pm Pacific Time, in both Modern Warfare and Warzone. The upcoming mid-season update marks the start of the global Games of Summer, which will allow players from across the world to represent their countries in a series of five trials and challenges. Obviously, there will be plenty of rewards for the participants regardless of whether they own the full version of Modern Warfare or enjoy the free-to-play Warzone. The trials of skill will be strictly singleplayer so that nothing distracts participants from earning precious points and helping their homeland rise to the top. Games of Summer officially starts on Friday, August 28th, and run through September 7th.
The update will also introduce some regular content, such as a new map for Gunfight and game modes for Modern Warfare and Warzone. The base game will receive the Ground War Reinforced variant mode, adding a twist to the standard gameplay formula. In this mode, players will need to fight for flags to respawn their teammates. Meanwhile, Warzone will be updated with a King Slayer mode, which changes how the game's play area evolves. Rather than simply shrink over time, the safe circle will instead move around the map for more interactive, non-stop action. On top of that, both games will get access to a new weapon, the FINN LMG, and a new Operator, Morte.
It feels like Infinity Ward is getting increasingly confident with giving Modern Warfare and Warzone additional content. It is especially valuable for the battle royale portion, which needs to stand out among its competitors to keep players interested in the long term. With the current season, the community already has tons of ways to keep busy, but it will be interesting to see which new content will be incorporated in Warzone with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War later this year. This will likely be unveiled in a couple of days, with a proper reveal of Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game scheduled for later this week.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
