General Iroh helped Korra fight against various enemies in The Legend of Korra, but overall he only had a small role in the show. Iroh is Zuko’s grandson, and he was named after his great-grand-uncle, Uncle Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Despite being part of the Fire Nation’s royal family, he became a general of the United Forces. He used his advanced firebending skills to help protect Republic City multiple times, first against Amon and Equalists and then Kuvira. Here’s what happened to him after The Legend of Korra ended.
Introduced in the later episodes of season 1, General Iroh is a talented firebender and fighter, and the youngest general in the United Forces. He participated in the battle for Republic City, fighting against the Equalists forces and playing a crucial part in the victory against Amon. He and Azula are the only firebenders shown to be capable of flying using their bending abilities, and he propelled himself with fire midair to board multiple planes and take down the Equalists air force. During the second season, he tried to assist Korra during the civil conflict between the Southern and Northern Water Tribes. In the fourth season, he once again did his best to protect Republic City against Kuvira’s attack.
After the ending of The Legend of Korra, Iroh continued his career as a general. In the Legend of Korra sequel comic Turf Wars, he was tasked by President Raiko to protect the perimeter around the spirit portal created by Kuvira’s energy cannon at the end of the season 4. The area became the source of conflict between the Spirit World and the CEO of Keum Enterprises, Wonyong. Wonyong wanted to build a tourist park around the portal and sent tours to the Spirit World. His plans enraged the spirits, and Korra had to intervene to stop an outright war happening between humans and spirits. Unfortunately, Raiko took Wonyong's side, and Iroh had no choice but to obey his orders.
To stop the construction of the park and protect the portal, Tenzin and the new Air Nation flew to the area to protest peacefully. Although Iroh asked them to leave at first, he also made sure his troops did not obey Raiko’s command to hose down the protesters. Later, Tokuga, the new leader of the triads, took control of Keum Enterprises and threatened to poison the entire city unless the United Forces left the portal and Republic City. Under orders from Raiko, Iroh withdrew his troops.
After Tokuga was defeated by Korra and the rest of Team Avatar, Iroh was present when Zhu Li made her first speech as the newly elected president of Republic City. General Iroh hasn’t appeared in the subsequent comic trilogy, The Ruins of the Empire, but there’s no reason why he can’t show up in other The Legend of Korra’s stories in the future.
