Who Suicide Squad's REAL Target Is (Not Superman Or The Justice League)

The target of Task Force X in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems fairly straight forward. After all, it's right there in the title. But the opening seconds of the trailer that debuted at the DC FanDome make it clear that there's an even bigger threat masterminding the attack on Earth.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is an upcoming action-adventure shooter from Rocksteady. Players of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League can play solo or with up to three other friends, swapping at-will between four playable characters: Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark. Currently, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is slated for a 2022 release on next gen consoles.

The trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League opens with a shot of a giant skull ship, one that sports three circles arranged in a triangular shape. That symbol is familiar to many DC fans as the emblem of longtime Superman nemesis Brainiac. Brainiac has gone through many iterations over the years, but generally is a hyperintelligent humanoid made from a blend of technology and organic matter. As "The Collector of Worlds," Brainiac tends to steal an entire city from a planet, then wipes out what remains of a species so that his collection contains the last of an almost-extinct race. But most importantly for the plot of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Brainiac has mind-control abilities.

When Superman makes his appearance in the game trailer, his eyes are glowing purple, a color that looks an awful lot like the purple glow of the circles on the skull ship. It's a likely scenario that Brainiac has used his powers to take control of the Justice League as part of his attack on Earth. While the Suicide Squad may go after various Justice League members like Superman or Batman in the short-term, the ultimate target should be Brainiac. Successfully destroying him would likely end the mind-control on Earth's heroes, and the invasion would stop.

Of course, it's not going to be an easy path for the Suicide Squad to get to their final target. Besides the Justice League, Brainiac is likely corrupting and controlling thousands of innocent civilians as well. If the Justice League were in charge of saving the day, they would probably worry about killing people who aren't in control of their bodies anymore. Unfortunately for those civilians, the Suicide Squad is on hand. Given that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a co-op shooter, it's likely going to be open-season on the poor zombies.
