10 Hidden Details Fans Never Noticed In Hocus Pocus | ScreenRant

After releasing in 1993, diehard Hocus Pocus fans have had over 20 years to memorize “I Put A Spell On You” and every witty line Winifred said. The Halloween Disney movie focused on the Sanderson sisters being brought to life after Max Dennison lit the black flame candle when he wasn’t supposed to. When the Sanderson sisters came back to life 300 years later, their mission was to be young and live forever with the help of the souls of children.

However, the more times fans have watched Hocus Pocus, the more things they’ve noticed that they’ve never noticed before.

10 Thackery's Change Of Accent

If you pay close attention to human Thackery, you would notice that his accent sounds very different from the cat version of himself. Sean Murray is the actor who played human Thackery whereas Jason Marsden played the cat version. According to Seventeen, the directors wanted Thackery's cat voice to sound like it was the 1600s  and Murray didn't have that range.

9 Max's Dry Jacket

With Hocus Pocus now being on Disney+, fans are able to watch it as many times as they like this Halloween season.

In the scene where Max is trying to deter the Sanderson sisters from grabbing him, Dani, and Allison, he grabs a lighter and sets off the sprinkler system. He tells them that he's the "great and powerful Max" and that he had the ability to shoot water from the sky. Max becomes soaked from the sprinkler system and darts out of the house. But when they show him outside of the house running to Allison and Dani, he's completely dry!

8 Sarah's Ever-Changing Hair

When Sarah Sanderson is first shown in the movie, she has ultra curly hair and her hair is a lighter shade of blonde. She's the complete opposite of her sisters. She's not as intuned to evil as Winifred is and she's typically seen dancing idiotically in the background. Between her sisters, Sarah is the boy-crazy flirt who just wants to play around with boys.

When Sarah comes back from the dead, her look has changed a bit. Her hair is straighter and appears to be a darker shade of blonde. Fans noticed that her hairstyle changes from ultra curly to straight periodically throughout the movie.

7 Max's Note Looks Different The Second Time Around

When Max is brazen enough to give Allison his number in the middle of class, it's written on a three punch-hole piece of paper. It had his name and number to the left of the paper. Unamused, Allison folds the piece of paper and slides it into her pocket.

When Max tracks her down after school, he apologized for embarrassing her and she passes him a note back. It's assumed that it's her phone number but when Max opens the paper we find out it's the original one he gave her. However, the papers didn't match. The one Max opened on his way home was on a different sheet of paper and the name and number were written clearer. Allison's confidence and sense of humor makes her one of the movie's best characters. We're hoping she makes an appearance in the sequel.

6 Do You Notice That Fountain?

After Max, Dani, and Allison lock the Sanderson sisters in the high school's heater, they all run out to the front yard and cheer in happiness. However, while Dani and Allison are dancing and doing cartwheels, there's one very important piece of TV history in the background: the fountain from Friends! Although it's just a simple fountain that was used in the Friends introduction, it's one of those monumental items that Friends fans buy on memorabilia. The fountain itself is found on a Warner Bros. lot, not New York City like so many Friends fans believe.

5 Thackery Died In A Special Place

The connection between Max, Dani, Thackery, and Emily can be heavily felt throughout the movie. Thackery and Emily were extremely close before their deaths; and although Max and Dani had their rifts, they were all each other had in a new town. These four were great models of siblings on TV.

In a poetic form of justice, when the spell was broken and the Sanderson sisters died, the cat form of Thackery Binx finally dies and his human body appears in ghost form. But what some fans missed is that Thackery's cat body died on Emily's grave.

4 A Subtle Shoutout To Another Witch

3 Mary Has A Special Relationship To The Devil's Dog

When Mary smells children in the night, the Sanderson sisters find themselves in the middle of a busy neighborhood on Halloween night. It's then that a man dressed as the Devil approaches them and the women excitedly enter his home thinking he was the actual devil.

After spending a few moments with the Devil, they quickly realize he's not who he says he is. His wife chases them out of the house and has their dog, Ralph, viciously run after them. What fans don't know is that Ralph is actually Kathy Najima's dog in real life!

2 That Spider Looked Too Authentic...

When the Sanderson sisters are brought back from the dead, Winifred creates a plan of attack in order to live forever while being their most beautiful selves. Sadly for Winifred, Mary and Sarah are in their own little universe and find it hard to pay attention. Sarah leans down and picks up a spider and munches on it while Winifred was speaking. And while most horror movies use props instead of the real thing, Sarah Jessica Parker actually did eat the spider! A small detail like this in the book is one thing but when it comes to the movies, SJP apparently went big instead of going home!

1 Does Binx Look Familiar?

Hocus Pocus did a few different things to get Binx to look so lifelike. There were a few scenes where Disney used multiple cats to get Binx's movement down pat. From jumping to sitting, they filmed real black cats to get it down perfectly. For other parts of the movie, they used "Audio-animatronic cats," according to Oh My Disney. In fact, Thackery is the same cat from Sabrina the Teenage Witch!
