10 Worst Film Franchises Of All Time, According To IMDb

Hollywood is filled with successful franchises that viewers are excited to see new installments. However, not all franchises end up being pots of gold for studios. Sometimes franchises start off well but go on too long and lose what made them great, leaving audiences and critics to wonder what happened.

Sometimes franchises don't start off well at all but continue to make more entries even when nobody wants it. Studios may not know when to let franchises die and those franchises can turn rotten. Here are the worst franchises of all time, according to their average IMDB scores.

10 Fifty Shades Of Grey-4.4

What started out as Twilight fanfiction turned into an immensely popular book series. The Fifty Shades of Grey books were controversial and provocative as they contained loads of explicit and kinky sex scenes. The books are not considered to be literary classics and the movies took all of the worst aspects of the book with none of the sexy.

The dialogue is terrible, the acting is stiff, and the sex scenes are more uncomfortable than sexy. Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan have awful chemistry and are a terrible couple as Dornan's Grey continues to manipulate Johnson in a horrible relationship dynamic. Despite its poor quality, these movies still made bank from audiences who were curious to see what the hype was all about.

9 3 Ninjas-4.3

3 Ninjas is a family action-adventure film about a group of three brothers who visit their Japanese grandfather who then teaches them the art of ninjutsu. The idea of a group of kids using martial arts to take on an army of random goons sounds fun enough. Unfortunately, these movies had too much cheese and not enough charm.

The first movie received mediocre reviews, but as more sequels came out, the worse the quality became, resulting in a fourth movie that has a dreadful 2.9 score. This may explain why everyone remembers The Karate Kid and not this martial arts franchise.

8 Children Of The Corn-4.1

Based on the short story by Stephen King, Children of the Corn is about a cult of creepy children who believe that every adult should be killed. Sounds like a good premise for a horror franchise. While the first film has its share of fans, this franchise just began to become more and more ridiculous.

The series currently has 10 movies and all of them sit at very low scores on IMDb. The movies seemed to become more silly than they were scary. Creepy kids usually are an effective tactic in horror movies, but this franchise has exhausted this trope.

7 The Scorpion King-4.1

After audiences witnessed a CGI abomination of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson mixed with a monster in The Mummy Returns, someone decided that a spinoff needed to be made. Johnson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and is often brought in to save franchises.

Unfortunately, The Scorpion King failed before it could even be rescued. After Johnson left, the franchise still has three more direct-to-DVD entries that are all considered to be very poor. Luckily, Johnson has gone on to do much better movies than this one. Maybe they should have left The Scorpion King in the tomb in which they found it.

6 The Howling-3.9

The Howling is a horror movie from 1981 where a woman becomes trapped in a mountain resort in which the residents are werewolves. The first movie in this franchise has a decent score with a 6.6, showing that audiences responded fairly well to this werewolf flick. Unfortunately, the studio made sequels and milked this franchise until there was nothing left.

The Howling franchise has a total of 7 movies and none come even close to the original. The most recent entry, Howling: New Moon Rising from 1995, has an alarming 1.8. That number is even more horrifying than the werewolves.

5 Sharknado-3.8

These movies are terrible, but that's the point. It's hard to be mad at a series of movies that are trying hard to be awful. Sharknado is a series of Syfy original movies about water tornadoes that absorb sharks from the ocean and drop them throughout a city.

Each movie features cheesier dialogue, worse CGI, and action scenes that completely defy all laws of physics. Each entry in this series has abysmal reviews, but nobody is surprised or cares. There is something amazing about a movie where a man jumps into a shark with a chainsaw and comes out alive.

4 Anaconda-3.8

The first Anaconda movie had star power with Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, and Ice Cube. However, this horror franchise involving a giant man-eating snake slithered on for too long. Each entry got less scary and campier.

The snakes got worse and so did the acting. Each IMDb score gets worse and worse which isn't shocking as most of these movies skipped theaters and went straight to DVD. The first Anaconda was not received well to start, so these movies should have just stayed lost in the jungle.

3 In The Name Of The King-3.3

In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is one of the worst movies of Jason Statham's career. This is due to the fact that this movie comes from infamous director Uwe Boll. Boll is known for making some of the worst movies ever made and this trilogy is definitely up there.

It's unclear why Statham appeared in this failed fantasy franchise, but the paycheck must have been fat. The sequel even managed to get Dolph Lundgren. Boll continues his streak of terrible filmmaking with this franchise and it is probably a good idea for studios to stop letting him make movies.

2 Norm of the North-3.2

Does an animated movie about a twerking polar bear voiced by Rob Schneider sound fun? No? Well, too bad because there are 4 of these movies. The first was released in theaters in 2016 and was considered to be one of the worst animated movies of the decade.

It has terrible animation, awful bottom-of-the-barrel jokes, and a ridiculous story. The next three kindly spared theaters and went straight to DVD. These movies are meant to be fun entertainment for kids, but Norm of the North is a better form of punishment.

1 Bloodrayne-2.8

Video game adaptations are usually bad, but an Uwe Boll video game adaptation is a special type of bad. Uwe Boll comes back to close off this list with a new trilogy involving sexy vampires. Bloodrayne is a horrible vampire flick involving awkward sex scenes, terrible action, and horrible editing.

Boll has a special knack for doing everything wrong when making a more and Bloodrayne is a perfect showcase for that talent. Thankfully, video game adaptations are starting to head in the right direction and this trilogy serves as a perfect example of what not to do.
