When Sumit’s parents showed up on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, they were ready to spill the tea. Jenny and her lies ended up disappointing a lot her fans, especially ones who had defended her through all the ups and downs of her relationship.
Sumit and Jenny’s romance on 90 Day Fiancé has had a lot of Bollywood-esque plot twists. The 61-year-old Palm Springs resident first met Sumit not as himself, but as Michael Jones from the UK. A few months down the line, Jenny realized that “25-year-old Englishman” Michael was actually Sumit from New Delhi, India. Jenny found 30-year-old Sumit “cute” as well, and even went to India to meet him in 2013. Their 90 Day Fiancé love story blossomed and Jenny flew back home with love in her heart. But amidst this entire long-distance romance, Sumit was married off to a woman of his family’s choice against his wishes. He kept this a secret from Jenny who found out the truth only after her second visit to India, when Sumit acted sketchy by disappearing from the house they were sharing for days at a time. All hell broke loose when Sumit’s father-in-law showed up at Jenny’s doorstep to take him away. But this season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way saw Jenny return once again to India with the promise that Sumit was filing for divorce. Sumit said he would convince his parents to accept Jenny, even though she was “older than his mother.” Jenny stayed hopeful, but 90 Day Fiancé fans caught that glimpse of fear in her eyes whenever Sumit spoke of her meeting his parents.
As it turns out, Jenny’s description of the events from 2013 didn’t match the version of Sumit’s parents, Anil and Sahna Singh. Sahna revealed that Jenny visited their house that year under the guise of being Sumit’s “Facebook friend” wanting to visit India. She overstayed her welcome at the Singh’s by turning her four-day visit into a four-month one. Sumit’s mother even became “good friends” with Jenny. But what’s worse is that Sumit’s parents noticed him visiting her room upstairs at night. That’s when they realized Sumit was having a romantic relationship with Jenny, a woman twice his age.
Sumit’s parents' description of events altered the perception of many fans. The Indian couple was portrayed as orthodox and strict. But in the country, it’s fairly uncommon for a family to let strangers off the internet come and stay in their house. They trusted Jenny, but she lied and started a relationship with Sumit in the same house where she was being treated with so much love. A Twitter user wrote, “File Jenny and Sumit under two sides to every story. She abused the parents’ hospitality, overstayed her welcome, had a secret relationship with their son under their own roof. No wonder they are so mad at her.”Another 90 Day Fiancé viewer noted, “Jenny was lying the entire time,” while an enraged fan tweeted, “Why are we just finding out all this stuff on 90 Day Fiancé?”
Given the reactions Jenny has been receiving after the latest 90 Day Fiancé episode, her popularity amongst the show’s fanbase has steadily declined. TLC surely knows how to keep fans wanting more and the way they revealed Jenny’s secret backstory right at the end of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’s mid-season finale speaks volumes! No wonder many ex-Team Jenny members are now echoing what she had to say to Sumit’s mom…“What the f**k is wrong with you lady?”
