Jason Statham Reteams With Snatch Director Guy Ritchie For Action Spy Movie

Immediately after finishing Wrath of Man, director Guy Ritchie and actor Jason Statham are teaming up for another movie called Five Eyes. The pair first collaborated on 1998's Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, which brought both into the public eye with the coining of Ritchie's slick and kinetic style of crime comedy. Their success continued with Snatch, but the two hadn't worked together since that film's success made them both stars. The pair reunited for the mysterious Wrath of Man, set for 2021, but they aren't finished yet.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Five Eyes is described as an action spy thriller which will star Statham as an MI6 agent tasked by an international intelligence organization called "Five Eyes" with stopping the sale of dangerous weapons technology that threatens to upend global stability. The script was penned by The Gentlemen and Wrath of Man writers Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies (with expected revisions by Ritchie), continuing a partnership that brought Ritchie success in returning to his gangster roots. Ritchie will also be joined again by financiers Miramax, with STX distributing. The project will be shopped to potential buyers at TIFF's upcoming virtual market with the goal of starting production in Europe by October 2020.

The Gentlemen was an enjoyable return to basics for Ritchie, who spent a large midsection of his career attempting to meld his style with major blockbusters with mixed results. Wrath of Man and Five Eyes seem like an effort to continue that momentum, and bringing Jason Statham along for the ride is exactly the kind of decision that will bring back fans of the old Guy Ritchie.
