Watch Series 6 Vs. Galaxy Watch 3: The Best Apple & Samsung Watches Compared

The Apple Watch Series 6 has all the bells and whistles of a premium fitness smartwatch, resulting in the gap between its capabilities and that of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 being a lot closer than before. Apple unveiled the Watch Series 6 during a dedicated Watch and iPad event and it wasn't the only new Apple smartwatch to be announced either, with the cheaper Apple Watch SE making its debut.

The Apple Watch Series 5 offered many health-tracking features and benefits, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor and improved monitoring accuracy. However, some of its competitors, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, already had many of the same features as the Series 5. In fact, a number of other smartwatches even had vital oxygen sensors that were still missing in Apple's smartwatches. That was until the Apple Watch Series 6 was announced.

Apple's 'Time Flies' event showcased a lot of what consumers can expect from what the company deemed its “most colorful lineup ever.” Aside from offering numerous color options, watch materials and finishes, the Apple Watch Series 6 is now capable of monitoring blood oxygen levels. The company claims that its accompanied bloody oxygen app can take measurements in a mere fifteen seconds. Other improvements include better health tracking accuracy, faster speed and efficiency, sleep monitoring, upgraded real-time altimeter, and an always-on display that's over two times brighter than its predecessor.

Compared to the Series 5, the Series 6's health-tracking features are a lot more competitive with the Galaxy Watch 3. Both watches offer advanced sleep-monitoring, as well as efficient blood oxygen level tracking. While both watches come with similar health and fitness aids, fall detection, and safety measures, the biggest difference still lies in their designs, operating platforms, and respective ecosystems.

The Series 6 is still the perfect wearable to accompany an iPhone and Apple's ecosystem. The same also applies to the Galaxy Watch 3, which is more aimed towards those who prefer traditional-looking timepieces, as well as Samsung's platform and operating system. The Series 6 does come with the benefit of the latest WatchOS 7, which offers a multitude of watch faces specifically tailored towards the wearer's lifestyle. Therefore, choosing based on the operating system is likely to be a major deciding factor here. Operating system aside, the two watches are extremely alike in terms of features. Even the price can't be relied on to separate them, with both the Apple Watch Series 6 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 starting at $399 in the U.S.
