10 '90s Movies You Never Realized Got A Sequel | ScreenRant

The 1990s are fondly remembered for some of the best movies ever, especially for kids and families. There were tons of creative new ideas in Hollywood. In fact, many of them have been around the block a few times in the form of sequels and reboots.

There are select movie titles that fans vividly remember watching, but not everyone knew they had sequels. The first movie is often the best, after all. Which '90s movies led to sequels that have now been forgotten (but might still be worth a watch)?

10 Dennis The Menace

Although Dennis the Menace was first a popular 1960s television show, it is also remembered as an off-the-wall 1993 movie. Those who watched it frequently can remember Dennis calling out, "Mr. Wil-son!" The antics of young Dennis and the frustration of George Wilson made a great comedic match. Unless fans bought the combo DVD years later, they likely missed the 1997 sequel featuring different actors, Dennis the Menace Strikes Again. It's even less likely that anyone remembers the 2007 addition, A Dennis the Menace Christmas.

9 Beethoven

Think back to a simpler time. A giant dog is the last thing George Newton wants, but that is exactly what the dad gets with Beethoven. The St. Bernard brings so much love into the Newton home, but an evil doctor is out to destroy the dog. Beethoven (1992) was written by John Hughes under his pseudonym, Edmond Dantes. The heartwarming story got not one, but eight sequels. The second kept the original family, the third and fourth moved on to a new family, and the others are anyone's guess.

8 Homeward Bound

Speaking of animal movies for kids, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is one of the best. The 1993 live-action film was a remake of a 1963 movie based on Sheila Burnford's novel. Some people either forget or don't know that Shadow, Sassy, and Chance make a comeback in Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco (1996).

7 The Brady Bunch Movie

The Brady Bunch is one of the most famous vintage sitcoms of all time, which is why it got so many spin-off shows and movies over the years. The original cast signed on for quite a few other projects, most notably A Very Brady Christmas, but the '90s were a time for reimagining the groovy bunch.

A Very Brady Sequel (1995) is a follow-up to The Brady Bunch Movie (1995). In both films, Gary Cole is Mike Brady and Shelley Long is Carol, and the whole family is basically dropped off in the 1990s to figure things out.

6 Speed

That's right, there is a Speed 2. The first film came out in 1994, starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. While Bullock returned for Speed 2: Cruise Control, Reeves did not. Instead of falling into the arms of Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves), Bullock's character, Annie, falls for another officer named Alex Shaw (played by Jason Patric). The film was not a critical success.

5 Angels In The Outfield

Angels in the Outfield (1994), a remake of the 1951 movie by the same name, will forever be a treasure of Disney's '90s movies. A family's fate depends on the Anaheim Angels making it to the World Series, but the guys out on the field aren't the only angels. Many people think back on this film and completely forget about 1997's Angels in the Endzone (about a football team) or the 2000 return to baseball, Angels in the Infield.

4 Stuart Little

Who knew that an adopted mouse could be so charming? It helps that the mouse, Stuart Little, is voiced by Michael J. Fox. It's also good that the mouse has an adorable kid best friend in George Little, played by Jonathan Lipnicki. Based on the popular novel by E.B. White, Stuart Little was a clear favorite in 1999, but some forget that Stuart Little 2 existed, and few people even know that there was later an animated Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild.

3 George Of The Jungle

For a certain generation, George of the Jungle (1997) will always be one of Brendan Fraser's best works. In the more grown-up ideation of Tarzan, George falls in love with a beautiful heiress named Ursula. He also has one of the best movie theme songs ever.

The second film is often forgotten because it did not come out until 2003, and George and Ursula were played by different actors.

2 Wayne's World

Wayne's World (1992) grew out of a Saturday Night Live skit and became a cult classic. Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey play Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar, respectively. Rob Lowe is Benjamin, the producer who buys Wayne and Garth's public access show. It's news to some people that Wayne and Garth partied on, with a Wayne's World 2 in 1993.

1 The Sandlot

Period movies filmed in the 1990s always have a special aura, and The Sandlot is no different. It's a classic that needs no introduction. The original movie is set in the San Fernando Valley in 1962, but this 1993 gem isn't the only time the kids play in the sandlot. Over a decade later, there was The Sandlot 2 (2005) and then The Sandlot: Heading Home (2007).
