Black-Ish Season 7 Adds 6 More Episodes | Screen Rant

Black-Ish season 7 has received a backorder of six more episodes by ABC. After two special election-themed animated episodes in early October, Black-Ish season 7 aired on ABC on October 21st. The series was created by Kenya Barris and follows the Johnsons, an upper middle-class African-American family, as they navigate socio-political and societal issues. Ever since its debut in 2014, Black-Ish has become one of ABC’s top-rated comedy shows, and has two spin-offs titled Mixed-Ish and Grown-Ish. The network recently announced that a third spin-off titled Old-Ish is in the works.

According to Variety, ABC recently announced that six more episodes will be added to Black-Ish season 7. The newly ordered episodes for Black-Ish brings the show to a full 21-episode season and increases the potential for Black-Ish to be picked up for more seasons in the future.

In June, ABC initially kept Black-Ish off its fall 2020 release schedule and gave the show a 15-episode midseason order. However, ABC later decided to move Black-Ish back in the Fall, following the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests and the racial climate at the time. ABC noted the importance of telling meaningful stories about systemic racism, the global pandemic, and political commentary through the eyes of the beloved Johnson family.

The synopsis for Black-Ish reads: "A family man struggles to gain a sense of cultural identity while raising his kids in a predominantly white, upper-middle-class neighborhood." Along with Anthony Anderson as Andre "Dre" Johnson, the series also stars Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson Jr., Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson, Laurence Fishburne as Pops, Jenifer Lewis as Ruby, Peter Mackenzie as Mr. Stevens, Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy and Jeff Meacham as Josh.
