Blink-182's Tom DeLonge IS Directing Sci-Fi Monsters of California Movie

Former singer/guitarist for Blink-182 Tom DeLonge will be directing the science-fiction film Monsters of California. This will be DeLonge's feature film debut; he previously made a short, "Poet Anderson," that won the Animated Short Film Award at the Toronto International Short Film Festival in 2014. DeLonge, however, is best known for his 20-plus years in the SoCal pop-punk band Blink-182, which he co-founded.

Moving on to his next chapter, Deadline reports that DeLonge will be helming the new sci-fi film, Monsters of California, based on a screenplay DeLonge co-wrote with Ian Miller. Production is underway, per the trade, with DeLonge serving as co-producer alongside Stan Spry and Eric Woods of The Cartel. DeLonge will also be writing and performing the film's score.

DeLonge has gained some wild press coverage in recent years due to his obsessive crusade to prove that aliens exist. His lifelong passion for UFOs hasn't been all that unusual, or even damaging to his career: he's produced History Channel's Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation, was named UFO Researcher of the Year, and he even got the Pentagon to prove that the United States government has had a task force on the subject.

Described by DeLonge as representing "all aspects of my strange existence," from his upbringing in San Diego to his time as a punk god, Monsters of California is a coming-of-age film with a sci-fi twist and follows a group of young friends who investigate a series of unusual and paranormal occurrences that have been taking place in their Southern California suburb.
