Switch Pro Rumored To Use Upgraded Mini-LED Screen | Screen Rant

The Nintendo Switch Pro might be using a new mini-LED screen, according to a recent rumor. The whole console is mired in mystery and rumor; Nintendo Switch Pro is an unofficial title for a product that hasn't been formally announced by the company. But many developments have been pointing to the new console being instrumental to Nintendo's plans for the future. Allegedly, the company has even told developers to begin getting 4K games ready for release on the new hardware.

Few could blame Nintendo for iterating on the Switch. The console has been a massive financial success for the company thanks to its distinctive combination of handheld and home console gameplay. Sales are still going strong, and analysts have even predicted that the hybrid system will outsell both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X this holiday season, even though Sony and Microsoft have been selling their brand new next-gen consoles hard over the course of the entire year. An improved version of the Switch is a good decision in order to keep Nintendo relevant as the next-gen machines fill out their libraries.

While there are still no confirmed facts about the Nintendo Switch Pro, rumors are flying fast. The most recent comes from Nintendo Life, who speculates that the new console could be using a mini-LED screen as opposed to the backlit LCD screen current Switch models use. The basis for this rumor is a recent visit Nintendo representatives paid to Innolux Corporation, a Taiwanese manufacturer. Depending on what happened in the meeting, there's a chance that Innolux will begin supplying Mini-LED screens for the Switch Pro. This change would likely improve battery life for the new console, as LED screens tend to be more efficient, since they don't provide light to pixels that don't need it. The new screens would also offer better contrast.

Of course, this is all just a rumor. It relies on a lot of information about Nintendo's Innolux visit that fans simply do not have. There could be any number of less significant reasons for one tech company to visit another. Then again, there's been more and more evidence that Nintendo is working on a new console, and if it is then it would definitely make sense to explore new screen options. An upgrade like the one Innolux would provide to the Switch would be a boon.

Nintendo's current system is certainly not without faults of its own. The company has accumulated a lot of lawsuits for the Nintendo Switch's pervasive Joy-Con drift problem. Affected customers will probably be disappointed that the company is working on a brand new console instead of fixing the devastating problem afflicting its current one. But if the new console can improve the Joy-Con issue, and deliver a better visual experience with the help of Innolux's LED screen, it could still be a major success for company and fan alike. Fans will have to see what, if anything, Nintendo reveals about the Nintendo Switch Pro in the future.
