New fan art shows what Jamie Foxx's Electro could look like with yellow lightning in the MCU's Spider-Man 3. Foxx first played Electro in Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. As an underworked Oscorp Industries employee, Foxx's Max Dillon fell into a tank of genetically-engineered eels in an accident at work and was given electric powers. Much like the film itself, Electro's depiction earned mixed responses from audiences, particularly because his appearance deviated greatly from the comics. Instead of simply wearing a green and yellow suit, Electro became entirely blue following his accident.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 seemed like the end of Foxx's Electro, not in the least because he died at the end of the film. However, fans got quite the shock (no pun intended) when, last week, news broke that Electro will return in the MCU's Spider-Man 3. The circumstances for his revival, not to mention how he'll be integrated into the MCU after first appearing in Sony's world, haven't been revealed, but Foxx did confirm that this time around, the Spider-Man villain won't be blue.
Unsurprisingly, fans are quite excited to see an Electro who might hew a bit closer to the comics. In anticipation of this new look, digital artist Yadvender Singh Rana created a new piece that gives Electro his traditional yellow lightning as he squares off against Tom Holland's Peter Parker. It's definitely a far cry from how he looked in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Check it out down below.
The news of Foxx's return inspired countless questions from fans, and the state of his appearance is definitely one of them. The MCU has found great success in translating some of comics' biggest villains onto the big screen and finding ways to honor their roots while putting a fresh spin on their stories. Therefore, it'll be very exciting to see what Marvel chooses to do with Electro, particularly since his previous big screen appearance was so disappointing. This gives Marvel the chance to adapt Electro properly, or at least with a look that is more accurate to the comics.
There's a lot of excitement surrounding Spider-Man 3, but so far, many parts of it remain shrouded in mystery. Plot specifics are still being kept under wraps, though they will surely begin to emerge as its December 2021 release date inches closer. Production is expected to begin this fall, which could also provide some eagerly awaited clues. One thing is certain though: Electro is back, and he'll be very different this time around.
