Hilary Duff's two most well-known television shows are Lizzie McGuire and Younger. The former made Duff a star, leading to over a decade of memorable movies, music, and merchandise. The latter series is still going on, and fans are dying to know what happens in the seventh season, due out in 2021 at the earliest.
Younger is a show for adults while Lizzie McGuire was a show beloved by a generation of kids. Duff is a star in each program, starting out as a bright-eyed middle school girl and growing up to play a New York publisher. Which show brings Hilary Duff's best role?
10 Kelsey: So High-Profile
Kelsey Peters is an interesting character because she leads such a thrilling life. Long days hard at work at Empirical, fast-paced nights partying with her friends, and a string of romances where the next move is anyone's guess. Kelsey's life is anything but mundane, and envious fans imagine that Hilary Duff's days are filled with just as much excitement.
9 Lizzie: So Relatable
As glamorous and exciting as Kelsey's life can be, it is not realistic for a lot of people. Hilary Duff is revered for her portrayal of Lizzie McGuire, a character fans proclaim to be one of the most relatable teens they've never met. Lizzie's life isn't that difficult, but she's still a girl growing up, and growing pains are universal.
8 Kelsey: Dressed To The Nines
Kelsey's wardrobe is one that many women would love to own. While she dresses more casually for work some days, her clothes are all clearly expensive, especially her evening looks.
Kelsey wears some of her outfits all day, but she is known to change it up with a flirty dress for a date or nighttime work event. A lot of Younger viewers could never afford these fashions, but they're fun to see onscreen.
7 Lizzie: Peak 2000s Fashion
Kelsey has nothing on Lizzie's turn-of-the-century style. In the early 2000s, the tween queen was wearing some of the best outfits of the decade. Lizzie and Miranda were style icons with their creative hairdos, bold color patterns, and platform sandals in multiple colors. Fashion didn't get much better than that.
6 Kelsey: Excels At Her Job
After watching the existing seasons of Younger, it becomes clear that Kelsey is a go-getter. She is skilled at her job in the beginning when she is an editor and is still great in season six when she takes Charles Brooks' job as publisher. Career-driven people are inspired by Kelsey's work ethic, even though she plays dirty sometimes.
5 Lizzie: Does The Best She Can
As the theme song says, "We only do the best we can." Lizzie has a strong work ethic, too, but she lives in the reality that things don't always turn out perfectly in life. She earns B grades in school, she struggles to be noticed, she is rejected by the popular kids. She also has a debacle just trying to buy a bra. All these things hit home for so many viewers, making Lizzie a champion of getting through the lows in life and fighting for the successes.
4 Kelsey: Dates Some Real Duds
One thing that makes Kelsey relatable is her dating history. A lot of people go on bad dates, and some, like Kelsey, date bad people consistently. She has trouble letting go of Thad before his accidental death, she finds it difficult to stop sleeping with a sleazy married author, and she is manipulated by an on-again, off-again romance at work. These flaws in her polished façade add depth to Kelsey's character.
3 Lizzie: Has Gordo
Gordo is Lizzie's biggest cheerleader, but he isn't afraid to make her think about her words or actions. The tweens lean into their friendship throughout the whole series and make each other better characters. An overwhelming amount of fans will always want Gordo and Lizzie to be together, so here's hoping the reboot takes note of that.
2 Kelsey: Independent & Still Learning
Kelsey is one of the most independent twenty-somethings on television, even though she lives with her best friend's family for half of the series. Kelsey becomes so busy running her imprint, Millennial, that she has time for little else on a daily basis.
She rarely speaks of her family, mentioning briefly that she is from Texas (like Hilary Duff) but never venturing there for a visit.
1 Lizzie: Has The Support Of Her Family
One of the enduring aspects of Lizzie McGuire is the show's supportive family structure. Lizzie has a healthy home life with her dad, Sam, her mom, Jo, and her little brother, Matt. Matt and Lizzie argue a lot, Matt doesn't always make sense, and Lizzie occasionally talks back to her parents, but her parents aren't doormats. They don't let their kids get away with everything, yet they maintain a positive atmosphere and an open line of communication. The McGuires are one of the best families in Disney Channel history, and Hilary Duff is lucky to have helped create that as Lizzie.
