90 Day Fiancé: Why Stephanie Matto Hated Watching Herself On TV

Fans have often questioned if Stephanie Matto appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days simply for fame. In fact, the show’s viewers wondered if the franchise’s first same-sex couple was really in love at all. Stephanie’s romantic relationship with Erika Owens made TLC fans question her bisexuality, but the YouTuber also dealt with a lot of struggles of her own. The 90 Day Fiancé star recently opened up about her regrets and what she learned while doing the reality show.

The latest season of 90 Days Fiancé: Before the 90 Days featured the ill-fated relationship between photographer Erika, 24, and Stephanie, 30, who flew all the way to Australia to meet her online girlfriend. Erika expected intimacy from Stephanie, which she never got. She then felt Stephanie's sexy YouTuber personality was not reflected in real life. 90 Day Fiancé fans saw the two fighting constantly. Needless to say, the romance fizzled out, and Stephanie packed her bags and flew back to America. Online, she got called out for faking her storyline. 90 Day Fiancé fans accused Stephanie of not treating Erika well and called her “self-centered and overly jealous.” But Stephanie, well-aware of what the internet says about her, often addressed the claims via her social media. In a new upload on her channel, the 90 Day Fiancé star answered the most-asked question of whether she ever regretted signing up for the TLC show.

Her new YouTube mukbang video shows 90 Day Fiancé’s Stephanie trying Indian snacks and “speaking her truth.” She started off by confessing, “I try to live my life without any regrets,” but later added that, after rewatching the show a couple of times, she can quite honestly say that she “didn’t like the person” she saw on TV. “It almost comes as no surprise to me when other people dislike me,” revealed Stephanie. According to her, if she saw herself on TV through someone else’s eyes, she’d “f*cking hate” her too. The 90 Day Fiancé celeb earlier opened up about having a rare disease called aplastic anemia, which also affected her during the show. “That was definitely one of my ‘not so greatest moment’ of my life. I was going through a lot emotionally, mentally, physically,” Stephanie said. “I had gained weight; I was insecure. I was dealing with depression and anxiety, and I was having a huge switch in my medications." She added that she was first unsure about doing 90 Day Fiancé, but somehow “tricked” herself into thinking it would be fine. The situation ended up controlling us. I got swept up in the whole reality TV aspect of it. It was not good,” she said about her 90 Day Fiancé relationship drama. Stephanie admitted that the backlash she received was bad, and mentioned, “I was one of the most disliked people on the season and the amount of hate and sh*t I got online was extremely tolling on my mental health.” However, the OnlyFans expert does feel that it forced her to reflect on herself in a way she’d “never done before” which was “good” for her in a way, as it felt like “a swift kick in the a**.”

Being a reality TV star does have its pros and cons, and Stephanie seems to have dealt with a fair share of her own since becoming a 90 Day Fiancé star. While she may have become a villain on her season, she also gained a bigger fan-following, which funds her bank account. Plus, Stephanie used the hate to bring out a better version of herself, which makes one question if she really was a bad egg on 90 Day Fiancé after all.
