Jordan Peele’s Next Film After Us Gets July 2022 Release Date

Jordan Peele's next film, his follow up to Us, will reportedly be released in July 2022. Peele burst onto the horror scene with 2017's Get Out. That critically acclaimed film went on to win Best Original Screenplay at the 2018 Academy Awards. He has since released Us, also to critical acclaim. Both films also grossed over $250 million at the box office, a lucrative take for a horror film.

Peele has found massive success after he transitioned from the comedy world to the horror one. Peele initially rose to prominence for his sketch comedy. The actor, writer, and director worked on MadTV before launching Key & Peele with Keegan-Michael Key. Since Get Out, Peele has worked primarily with horror, including this year's breakout hit Lovecraft Country and the revival of classic anthology series The Twilight Zone. Peele also worked as a producer and writer on next year's highly anticipated Candyman.

Although details around this new project are being kept under wraps, according to Deadline, the film will be released in 2022. It is also said to be another entry in the horror genre and tied closely to the social-thriller commentary that he has already established with his first two features. Universal Pictures confirmed the release date to be July 22, a week after the release date of Fantastic Beasts 3.

Even though the film will be released a week after a highly anticipated blockbuster, Peele and Universal probably aren't worried. Fantastic Beasts 2 did not do so well at the box office, and its sequel had been in limbo until very recently. Additionally, horror movies experience more longevity at the box office and often have way less money to make to earn a profit. Peele's films have become highly anticipated events, both for their thrills and social commentary. This one will be a big draw for audiences, especially during the summer blockbuster season.

Both Us and Get Out were loved for their socially-conscious horror, with both films tackling racism, class issues, and other hot button topics. Peele weaves these themes into his horror seamlessly, partly because horror is a genre that is ripe for social commentary. With the increasingly insane political happenings in the country, Peele is sure to develop something particularly poignant. Peele will continue exploring class issued with an adaptation of The People Under the Stairs, so this could be a running theme and one that he consistently brings into his work. Fans will have to wait for a little under two years to find out just what Peele will come up with, but it's sure to be terrifying on multiple levels.
