10 Actors Who Frequently Work With Scarlett Johansson

Especially in recent years, actress Scarlett Johansson has become one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors. In fact, if you add up the box office haul for the actress’s highest-grossing movies, the figure would undoubtedly be in the billions. Of course, the list includes Avengers: Endgame, which is arguably responsible for some of the most impressive box office records broken by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Throughout her career, the Oscar-nominated actress has also collaborated with several seasoned actors like herself. As some may have noticed, she worked with some of these stars more than once.

10 Hugh Jackman

Johansson has starred opposite Jackman in two movies so far, both of which were released in 2006. Scoop is a comedy written and directed by Woody Allen. In the movie, Johansson plays a journalist who gets a tip regarding a possible serial killer, played by Jackman.

While talking about working with Johansson on this movie, Jackman told Emanuel Levy, “She's [sic] kind of extraordinary, really, because the girl can do anything”. Soon after wrapping up on Scoop, both actors went to work on Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige, which is regarded as one of Nolan’s best movies to date.

9 Brie Larson

So far, Larson and Johansson have done three movies together, although they weren’t all for the MCU. The very first time they worked on a film was in the 2013 comedy-drama Don Jon, which also stars Julianne Moore and Tony Danza.

On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it almost seemed that Larson had completely forgotten about their first movie together. In response, Johansson joked, “Clearly, it made an impression on me but somebody else didn't care.” Meanwhile, Larson explained, “I didn’t even think about that because I just felt like I was basically a glorified extra and you were Scarlett Johansson.”

8 Chris Hemsworth

The Australian actor is one of Johansson’s regular MCU co-stars since both are part of the original Avengers cast. After years of working together, it’s become clear that Hemsworth and Johansson have become really good friends. In fact, while appearing on BBC Radio 1’s Playground Insults, the actors participated in what host Chris Stark called “the politest game ever.”

Johansson tried to go after Hemsworth’s “grandma cardigans” while Hemsworth implied that Johansson tends to show up late to the set. The Thor actor also quipped, “Do you need a watch…for Christmas?”

7 Mark Ruffalo

Ruffalo didn’t just star as Johansson’s fellow Avenger, he also played her love interest in the MCU at one point. While talking about their romantic story arc in the MCU, Johansson explained that Ruffalo was a “wonderful scene partner” to have “because he is so open himself.”

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actress also explained that Ruffalo had to “really suspend his disbelief” because she was very pregnant around the time that they were filming their scenes together. She also found it “ironic” because, in one of their scenes, Natasha opens up about being unable to have children.

6 Jeremy Renner

After appearing in all of MCU’s Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War, it’s become clear that Johansson’s Black Widow and Renner’s Hawkeye are as close as can be.

The two actors have also shared several badass moments together across their MCU movies. There is also a chance that Renner will appear in the upcoming Black Widow movie.

5 Robert Downey, Jr.

Johansson joined Downey in the MCU long before the Avengers were assembled. Because of this, both actors are among those with the biggest MCU roles. Johansson made her MCU debut in the 2010 movie Iron Man 2 where her character initially goes undercover as Nathalie Rushman.

While speaking with Sci-Fi Movie Page, Johansson explained that she became interested in joining the MCU after the first Iron Man movie made quite the impression on her. She explained, “The action was great, but it also was romantic, funny, clever and witty.”

4 Gwyneth Paltrow

Paltrow was one of the actors that Johansson first worked with upon joining the MCU. In fact, Johansson’s Natasha Rushman reported to Paltrow’s Pepper Potts as much as she did to Iron Man himself.

And while discussing Iron Man 2, Paltrow also praised the fact that the movie featured two strong female characters, telling MTV, “I think that it's a very smart decision actually to have women that are capable and intelligent, because it appeals to women.” The two actresses went on to work together on several Avengers movies.

3 Jon Favreau

To be able to join the MCU, Johansson had to convince Iron Man 2 director Favreau that she was right for the role. That proved to be a challenge initially because Favreau preferred Emily Blunt. However, when Blunt eventually dropped out, they contacted Johansson again.

While speaking with USA Today, the actress recalled, “The best call you can receive is after you are rejected for something and then you get it.” Since then, Favreau also cast Johansson for a role in Chef, one of the best films for food lovers.

2 Samuel L. Jackson

Before either actor had joined the MCU, Johansson and Jackson starred in the 2008 movie The Spirit, which was written and directed by Frank Miller. While discussing how she got involved in the film, Johansson revealed that Jackson was one of the reasons he agreed to do it.

“I’ve always loved Sam and been a huge fan of his,” Johansson told Indie London. “We had a really lovely meeting, a long meeting, and kind of mutually admired one another.” As fans may know, Jackson’s Nick Fury a Johansson’s Black Widow also worked closely in the MCU.

1 Chris Evans

Long before either actor landed their roles in the MCU, Johansson and Evans were already working on movies together. The first one was the 2004 movie The Perfect Score. This was followed up by the 2007 film The Nanny Diaries, which is among the best rom coms starring MCU actors.

And when the actors joined the MCU, they worked together on several Captain America and Avengers movies. Meanwhile, it is rumored that Evans and Johansson are set to reunite in the upcoming film Little Shop of Horrors.
