For quite some time, actress Kate Hudson was a fixture in romantic comedies. In fact, she’s probably in some of the best 1990s rom-coms that you’ve come to love. Meanwhile, in the awards circuit, Hudson is an underdog. She may have won a Golden Globe for her performance in the film Almost Famous.
However, the role only managed to earn a nomination from the Academy Awards (putting it on the list of those that should have won best supporting actress). That said, we remain excited about Hudson’s upcoming movies. Until then, check out her past films, according to critics.

In this 2014 movie, Hudson plays the wife of a man trying to figure out what he wants in life while homeschooling his two children. Actor Zach Braff, who co-wrote and directed the movie, plays the lead role.
Braff personally offered Hudson her part after she complimented him on the script. “And then he goes, ‘Well then, do you want to come do it?’” the actress recalled while speaking with Den of Geek. She also said the part appealed to her because the character was “the catalyst for change” in the story.

While discussing playing the character, Hudson told Pop Sugar, “I think I instinctively tapped into the idea of when you experience some kind of trauma in your life or something that has informed how you make decisions.” Meanwhile, the critics did appreciate some aspects of the movie. However, there is a sense that the movie falls short in some ways.

The film’s star-studded cast also includes Farrah Fawcett, Helen Hunt, Laura Dern, and Tara Reid. Despite the all-star ensemble, the film still fell short to critics. Fortunately, it didn’t really affect Hudson’s career. In fact, the actress went on to do several other movies soon after.
6 Clear History, 61%
This 2013 movie stars Larry David as Nathan, a man who's hellbent on taking revenge on his former boss, played by Jon Hamm. As for Hudson, she plays Hamm’s wife who ends up striking an unlikely friendship with David. Her character has also been named as one of Hudson’s best roles, according to IMDb.

5 About Adam, 68%
In this 2000 movie, Hudson stars as a waitress with a boyfriend who gets into romantic affairs with her whole family. Believe it or not, Hudson figured out her character, Lucy, after getting a facial from a young teen “who could not stop talking.”

In the movie, Hudson plays Eleanor Strubing, the Connecticut socialite who accused her butler (played by Sterling K. Brown) of rape, a charge that Marshall vigorously defended his client against.
For Hudson, deciding to portray Strubing was a “challenging decision to make. It took me outside of my own moral and ethical codes,” the actress told EUR. “But it’s so important to tell these stories…”
